Thank you to LifeSpring Health President and CEO Beth Keeney, Clark County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Scottie Maples, and Clark County Health Officer Dr. Eric Yazel for speaking to our club yesterday about the effects of the pandemic on mental and physical health of Southern Indiana residents.

CLARK COUNTY — COVID-19 is hitting the underserved communities of Clark County the hardest, but they aren’t the only people feeling the impact.

Thanks to our Rotarians, the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana Challenge was a huge success! After a matching gift, Rotary Club of Jeffersonville and Rotary Club of New Albany helped raise over $15,000 to support one-to-one community mentorships in Southern Indiana! Thank you to Steve Kiger for being a champ and taking a pie to the face as part of our friendly competition. Thank you to Extol Magazine for hosting us on Extol Live!

Thank you to our fellow Jeffersonville Rotarian and State Senator, Ron Grooms for speaking to the club today about the Indiana state legislative session. Ron covered many topics regarding employment/job growth, executive orders, how to utilize one-time large stimulus payments, COVID related bills, increased bipartisanship during last session, and what he called the state's largest amount budgeted towards education.

Thank you to State Representative Rita Fleming for speaking to Jeff Rotary today. She covered a lot of topics affecting the area, first and foremost COVID: the winners and losers, what is happening at the state level, lessons learned, and proposing that the extra money saved by health insurance companies go to Public Health Departments for PPE and other much needed help. Some of the other topics Representative Fleming discussed were: the general civility in the Indiana legislature and working together on common causes, the need to emphasis trade schools by introducing kids at a younger age, racial justice (reemergence of Jeff High's School Colors production) and policing (the great work Jeff PD has done with LifeSpring and de-escalation training), and other topics. We're also excited to have her as a Rotarian! Thank you again!

Thank you to David Seckman, Director of the Jeffersonville Township Public Library for his interactive presentation on how to get a library card online and the their plethora of online resources, You can find a list of their resources at https://jefflibrary.org/resources/. They have everything from eBooks, Audiobooks, music, databases, magazines, genealogy, and more all available when you have a library card. Although it is currently closed due to COVID-19, David covered the library's Makerspace, which is a space for people to make things via 3D Printing, laser cutting/engraving, a recording studio, and more.
