🦝🩶 A little update on just a small portion of the wildlife currently in our care! 🩶🦝
These photos feature some of our growing raccoons and opossums, and they are all doing amazing and becoming more independent every day! 🥹
Some of the raccoons have officially started bowl feeding and are enjoying scrambled eggs 🍳 while a few of the opossums have started exploring new foods like broccoli 🥦 and eggs too!
Watching these babies grow, gain confidence, and start acting more wild is always one of the most rewarding parts of rehabilitation. 🐾

🦝🐾 Baby season has officially EXPLODED over here at Keepin It Wild Wildlife Rescue! 🐿️🍼
In just the last 7 days since returning from vacation, I in South Dakota, have taken in:
🦡 28 opossums
🦝 20 raccoons
🐇 12 bunnies
🐿️ 4 squirrels
That’s 64 wild babies needing around-the-clock care, formula, heating, medications, cleaning, transport, and feeding every few hours. ❤️‍🩹
Life is incredibly busy right now, so please have patience with responses and messages. We are doing our absolute best while caring for all these little lives. 🙏

Meet Arthur — the lone survivor of a fatal car accident. 🖤
This little opossum has already overcome so much, and we’re happy to say he’s doing great in rescue. Every day he grows stronger, brighter, and a little more curious about the world around him.
Stories like Arthur’s remind us how important compassionate people are. We are always incredibly grateful for the animal lovers who stop, care, call, donate, transport, and support wildlife in need. It truly takes a community to give these babies a second chance.

🌿🦝🐇 BIG shout out to Sarah! 🐦🦉
Sarah is an absolutely amazing wildlife rehabber who continually steps up for the animals that need us most. From bunnies and squirrels to songbirds and even birds of prey needing temporary placement before transport to specialized rehabbers — Sarah is always there to help.
Her dedication, compassion, and willingness to jump in wherever needed is truly unmatched. Whether it’s late-night calls, emergency intakes, transport help, or providing expert care, Sarah gives so much of herself to wildlife and our rehab community.
We are beyond grateful for everything she does behind the scenes and for the countless lives she helps save every single day. 💚

Behind so much of what happens in rescue is someone quietly answering the call — literally. ❤️
Julie, or “Jules” as many know her, spends countless hours helping not only the public, but also rehabbers and rescue groups throughout our area. From giving advice and helping coordinate care, to capturing injured wildlife and transporting animals and birds to safety, she is always willing to step in wherever needed.
Wildlife rescue takes a village, and Jules is such an important part of ours. Her compassion, dedication, and willingness to help make a difference for so many animals every single day.

🦝💕 A huge shoutout to Lea for all she does for wildlife!
Right now, Lea — a licensed wildlife rehabilitator in Iowa — is caring for SIXTEEN baby raccoons. (And the season has just begun.) That means around-the-clock feedings, endless laundry, cleaning, medications, enrichment, and so much love poured into helping these babies grow strong enough to return to the wild where they belong.
Wildlife rehab is not easy work, and caring for this many babies takes incredible dedication, patience, and heart. We are so thankful to have Lea as part of our team and grateful for the amazing care she gives these little ones every single day.

🦝 We welcomed these seven baby raccoons into rescue today!
The younger four are still struggling a bit to get used to the bottle, while the older three took right to it like pros! ❤️ And as if that wasn’t enough… we have SIX more little ones arriving at 3:00 today.
Baby season is officially here, and our licensed wildlife rehabbers are working around the clock to keep these tiny lives warm, hydrated, and fed.
