Agriculture Literacy Week: Agriculture Heroes

Farmers aren’t the only people who help bring food to our tables.

Truck drivers, veterinarians, scientists, equipment operators, and many others all play important roles in agriculture.

Today’s challenge for kids:
What job in agriculture sounds interesting to you?
Share what you would like to do if you worked in agriculture someday.

Today's Book Recommendation: Farmer Will Allen and the Growing Table by Jacqueline Briggs Martin and Will Allen; illustrated by Shabazz Larkin

In recognition of the International Year of the Woman Farmer and Women's History Month, today we honor Rachel Carson.

Carson's voice changed how the world understands land, farming, and stewardship.

Rachel Carson sparked a global environmental movement by challenging harmful agricultural practices and championing conservation. Her work reshaped public policy, advanced sustainable land management, and helped ensure that farming could thrive alongside healthy ecosystems.

Her impact still guides conversations about agriculture and environmental responsibility today.

One of our longtime Pioneer Picnic supporters, the Kershaw family, has recently experienced a devastating loss due to a house fire. During times like this, it’s our community that makes all the difference.
They have supported so many of our events over the years — now it’s our turn to show up for them.
If you are able, please consider attending the Reverse Raffle & Spaghetti Dinner or sharing this event to help spread the word. Every act of kindness, every donation, and every show of support truly matters as they begin the difficult journey of rebuilding.
Thank you for continuing to show what our Pioneer Picnic community is all about.

Last Saturday (12/6) some of our juniors enjoyed being in the Jefferson Christmas Parade, and we learned we will need more candy for next year!

Last night (12/12) we had our Christmas party! 🎄 Our adult members and visitors put together 17 containers of cookies to send to shut in Grangers and family members, and some of our juniors decorated Christmas cookies.
