Most high school graduating classes have a class photo, often taken with students wearing caps and gowns. In earlier years at Jefferson, graduating classes were well dressed and photographed in professional studios.
I am working to assemble a complete collection of these graduation photos in one place, beginning with the first graduating class in 1901. So far, I have gathered photos from just over 30 classes. The best images are copies of original photographs, but newspaper clippings are also welcome. In some years, all students are identified, while in others they are not.
My goal is to organize these photos sequentially in book form. By our next Alumni Reception, held the afternoon before the Alumni Banquet, I hope to greatly expand the number of classes represented. The book will also be available for viewing in our museum.
These are the classes I currently have photos for:
1901, 1904, 1906, 1908–1910, 1913–1915, 1919, 1935, 1938–1943, 1947–1950, 1953, 1955, 1957, 1959–1960, 1969, 1981, 1990, and 1994–1995.
I am interested in photos from any other graduating classes. You may send digital images to [email protected]. If you have printed photos, you may mail them to:

If you wish, I can copy your photos and return the originals to you.
Today, I am sharing the Class of 1949 photo featuring Ruth Meyer, Helen Summers, Madeline Gleich, Dick Blaine, Catherine Alvarez, Marion Clapper, and Doris Vroman.
