Here’s the secret about AI that nobody is talking about:
It’s only AI slop if you allow AI to create slop.
That might be controversial right now. AI slop is real, but I also think the phrase is becoming a convenient excuse for some people to dismiss the technology, avoid changing how they work, and resist a shift that is already happening.
AI has completely changed how we develop software. We rarely write code line by line anymore, and nobody has noticed.
We’re transparent with our clients about the tools we use. Yet nobody has accused the software we’ve built with AI of being slop.
Why?
Because the tools have changed, but our standards haven’t.
We still plan before we build. We review the code. We test rigorously. We think through edge cases. We make sure the finished product actually solves the right problem.
AI doesn’t replace those practices. It makes them even more important.
If AI can help produce high-quality software, I believe it can produce high-quality work in other fields too. The key is not accepting whatever it gives you.
Review it. Question it. Refine it. Make it better. If the output isn’t good enough, don’t use it.
The problem isn’t that AI creates slop.
The problem is when people stop caring whether the work is any good.
