If you're looking for a lost pet, want to surrender a pet or report animal cruelty, you need to contact the Jefferson Protection & Animal Welfare Services directly. The Humane Division is 504-349-5536. Only the Westbank location is open at this time. The Eastbank shelter is expected to be rebuilt in early 2027. wanting to get your pet spayed/neutered through our Low Cost Program, you can go to our website www.jeffersonspca.org and see a list of clinics that participate in our program. You contact the vet directly to schedule your appointment. It's a $60 co-pay for dogs, a $15 co-pay for cats and a $40 male/$60 female co-pay for rabbits. If we have dogs for adoption, they will be at the Jefferson Feed on Jefferson Hwy in Jefferson, LA. We have 3 dog adoption kennels and our dogs are pulled directly from the animal shelter and placed at the store. Our volunteer dog adoption coordinator is Martha, her email is [email protected]. If you're looking for kittens/cats for adoption, we have cats at Jefferson Feed on Jefferson Hwy in Jefferson, LA. Our cat animal adoption coordinator is Rachel, her email is [email protected]. If you're looking for small animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets (rare), gerbils (rare), chinchillas (rare)), our small animals for adoption are in Jefferson Feed on Jefferson Hwy. in Jefferson, LA. Our small animal adoption coordinator is Hannah, her email is [email protected]. You can stop by during Jefferson Feed business hours and meet any of the animals we have available for adoption. Please ask a staff member for assistance if you want to take them out or apply for adoption. Sometimes there isn't enough staff to assist, so please be patient. Occasionally we have a few cats at Petco in Kenner on Williams Blvd. These cats are pulled directly from JPAWS (the parish animal shelter) and placed at this offsite partner location. Six months too long!

Prince William, Chloe and Lennon have the most gentle and outgoing personalities with hearts of gold. They love attention and are energetic, sweet, special rabbits who have quickly become fan favorites here with us. Even though they may not stand out to many at first because they are black and white, their personalities shine through if someone would just give them a chance at love.

Each of them has their own story, and unfortunately, none of them started out easy. Prince William was found as a stray and eventually surrendered to animal control. Life on the streets is incredibly difficult for domesticated rabbits who were never meant to fend for themselves. Chloe was abandoned with a missing eye, which we have since stitched up and cared for. Lennon was also abandoned and left outside to die after the novelty of having a rabbit wore off.

Despite everything they have been through, these three remain some of the sweetest, most loving and outgoing rabbits you could meet. They have so much love to give and we truly hope someone is willing to let these energetic, sweet and special rabbits into their lives.

Prince William, Chloe and Lennon have been with us for over six months with zero interest. They deserve so much more than being overlooked. They deserve someone who will see their personalities, give them a chance and love them for the incredible rabbits they are.

Please consider adopting one of these very special rabbits. They are ready for their forever home.

We don’t understand how no one has scooped up Cooper yet.

Cooper came to us from JPAWS about four months ago as an approximately 9-year-old, 8-pound Chihuahua mix with severely luxating patellas. He actually came over on one of our adoption days, and that day a couple walked in specifically looking for a senior Chihuahua.

They saw Cooper and fell in love with him. They cried when they saw his leg and were worried they wouldn't be able to handle watching him live in pain. We explained that Cooper really didn't seem to know anything was wrong with him. They went home to think about it and said they would call us Monday.

Unfortunately, that call never came.

So Cooper stayed with our Programs Director.

Four months later, he has received exactly ONE inquiry. And we cannot figure out why.

Yes, his left leg looks funky. It had been luxated for so long before he came to us that it could not be repaired and is now permanently deformed. His right knee eventually started luxating too, but that one was successfully repaired by Southshore Animal Hospital.

And Cooper? Cooper does not care.

He runs around the backyard. He patrols the fence. He chases behind his senior Golden Retriever foster brother and a much larger Lab/Dachshund/Who-Knows-What foster sibling. Outside, he remembers that he is a Chihuahua and therefore approximately 110 pounds and in charge of everyone.

Inside, he's actually one of the easiest fosters in the house.

He's quiet. He's an excellent sleeper. He loves getting under the blankets with his person. If he wants to be picked up, he'll paw at your ankles until you oblige. He gets along with other dogs, although he can be a typical Chihuahua about sharing his favorite soft beds and blankets.

Lately, he's even been a little shy and keeps more to himself. To be fair, living in a house with a stampede of 16 dogs probably isn't exactly the peaceful retirement Cooper had in mind.

This little guy deserves his own person and a quieter home where he can spend his retirement years under somebody's blankets.

He's fully vetted, recently had his dental cleaning, and his orthopedic issues do NOT stop him from enjoying his life.

Also, for anyone who remembers Cooper's brief career as an electrician: we are happy to report that he has not eaten a cord in months. We believe he has officially retired from the profession.

Cooper doesn't need anyone to feel sorry for him because of his leg. He just needs someone to look past it and see the funny, sweet, slightly bossy little Chihuahua attached to it.

Four months is long enough. Somebody come get this little old man out of his foster home and into his forever retirement home.

MAGGIE IS BACK AT JEFFERSON FEED — AND THIS WEEKEND, YOU CAN COME MEET HER! ❤️

If you've followed Maggie's story, you know how much we love this girl.

Maggie originally came into JPAWS as a stray in **August 2025**. We met her months later, in January, when JPAWS brought adoptable dogs to Jefferson Feed for one of our adoption events.

We don't normally pull larger dogs into our adoption program, but Maggie did something to all of us.

Staff loved her. Volunteers loved her. Everyone who spent time with her talked about what a sweetheart she was. One volunteer summed her up perfectly:

**"Girlfriend is a LOVE. She just wants to hug you."**

So we decided Maggie deserved a chance with us.

Then an amazing foster mom stepped up to get Maggie out of the kennel and help her through heartworm treatment. And we are VERY happy to say:

**MAGGIE HAS COMPLETED HER HEARTWORM TREATMENT! 🎉❤️**

Unfortunately, Maggie's foster mom had a family emergency this weekend, so our girl is temporarily back with us at the Jefferson SPCA Adoption Center inside Jefferson Feed.

And we're hoping maybe there's a reason she's here.

**Because now you can come meet her in person.**

Maggie is estimated to be 7–8 years old and about 60 pounds. She's affectionate, smart, people-oriented and absolutely LOVES attention. She leans into you, gives hugs and kisses, enjoys enrichment toys and working for treats, walks well on a leash and is house trained.

She's also good with other dogs and would be happy to have a canine sibling.

Maggie has been waiting since **August 2025**.

She waited at JPAWS.
She came to adoption events.
She came to Jefferson SPCA.
She went through heartworm treatment.
She settled beautifully into foster care.

She has done everything we've asked of her.

**Now she just needs someone to choose her.**

After sharing our JPAWS call to action, we knew we couldn’t just ask others to step up—we had to do our part, too.

So Amelie & Rachel grabbed the van and headed to the shelter. They were able to bring 22 cats back with them, clearing 8 kennels at JPAWS!

These 22 cats will now be split between our fosters, making new friends with our existing residents and settling into their new spaces with us.

But let’s be clear: Are there still cats at JPAWS that need to be moved into foster homes and adopted? YES.
Did this help the shelter? For the moment.

But this is an ongoing effort, and we need everyone to help support it. Every foster, every adoption, every share, every donation—it all makes a difference.

Eight empty kennels means eight more spaces for cats who desperately need them. And that’s how we save lives—one kennel, one cat, one foster, one adoption at a time.

We can’t save them all alone, but together, we can save so many more. ❤️

🚨 CALL TO ACTION — THIS IS IT. 🚨

The JPAWS cat kennels are ALL FULL.

What does that mean? It means if cats aren’t ADOPTED or FOSTERED, there may be nowhere for them to go — and lives are at risk simply because there is no space.

A bathroom is better than a kennel. A spare bedroom is better than a kennel. A laundry room is better than a kennel. You don’t need a perfect setup. You just need to be willing to help.

And remember: when you foster ONE, you save TWO. ❤️

You save the life of the animal you bring home AND you create space for another animal at the shelter.
The intakes don’t stop because the shelter is full. People will continue showing up with animals, and the cycle will continue unless WE step up and break it.

This problem was created by people — and people can fix it. 💪

Jefferson Parish, we are better than this. Our community is strong, our voices matter, and these animals need us to SHOW UP NOW.
