Jackson-Empower members Emma Patton and Keaton Shultz have spent the last three days competing with their beef heifer projects at the Georgia National Fair and both have had tremendous success. Both young ladies placed in the top five of their respective showmanship divisions with Keaton going on to be named 10th Grade Showmanship Champion. Keaton continued an outstanding day yesterday garnering champion honors with her Limousin Heifer and continuing on to be named Grand Champion Bred and Owned Female. Emma notched two class wins in today’s Jr. Heifer Show and was named Reserve Champion Low % Chi Female. Keaton also had another outstanding day, her Limousin Heifer was named Reserve Breed Champion and she claimed two top 5 finishes in the Angus Show one of which led to her claiming the Reserve Champion Angus Title and finally Reserve Supreme Champion Female. These young ladies put in the work day in and day out in these projects and were blessed to reap the rewards this weekend. Please send them your congratulations!

If you didn’t make it to the chapter meeting yesterday, you missed out! Ms. Kathy Church, who is a Wildlife Interpretive Specialist with the GA Department of Natural Resources (DNR), was our guest speaker. She led the Snakes Alive program where she spoke about different snakes in Georgia and how snakes are beneficial to humans and the environment. We learned some interesting facts about the snakes and got to handle the snakes. We ended the meeting was delicious food dips and Gaga ball.

Last Friday a couple of our members went to UGA’s Ag Dawg for a Day.
We visited the University of Georgia for an agriculture-focused field trip that provided hands-on exposure to several areas of the university’s agricultural programs. We began with a welcome and tour of Double Bridges Farm at the beef and sheep unit, followed by lunch and a learning session at the dining hall. We then visited the Rhodes Animal Science Center for an overview of the Meat Processing Lab and toured the Poultry Science Building, where we participated in a poultry suture clinic. We finished the day with a tour of UGA’s Trial Gardens, giving us the opportunity to see agricultural research and plant science in action.

Overall, the trip allowed us to explore animal science, meat processing, poultry science, veterinary-related skills, plant science, agricultural research, and college opportunities at UGA.

🐷🏆 Congratulations to Our Hardworking Showmen! 🏆🐷

We are incredibly proud of our showmen and the tremendous amount of time, dedication, and hard work they have put into their livestock projects over the past several weeks. Their commitment doesn’t just show in the ring—it shows in the countless hours spent feeding, fitting, exercising, and caring for their animals.

We are excited to celebrate their accomplishments from several recent shows!

We say all the time that we could not do what we do without our outstanding alumni and supporters. Today they came through again donating a new enclosed trailer to our program. This trailer will serve to move students luggage, tack for our livestock team and even as a way to raise funds for our chapter and the the JCSS middle school chapters as well. . Thank you so much to the Jackson County FFA Alumni and Supporters for this generous gift.
