Our daylight crews were happy to visit Gill Hall Elementary School today in recognition of Fire Prevention Week.

Crews spent time with students reviewing important fire safety topics, discussing what to do in the event of an emergency, and showing off some of the equipment firefighters use every day.

We would like to thank the students and staff at Gill Hall Elementary for having us. We always appreciate the opportunity to educate the younger members of our community on the importance of fire safety!

Jefferson Hills Fire Rescue units were dispatched to the 300 block of Stettler Drive for a reported strange odor in the basement of a residence.

The Rescue arrived and assumed the first due engine company assignment, stretching a handline and securing their own water supply. Engine 2 arrived and assumed the second due engine company assignment.

Crews investigated a reported odor of burning plastic in the basement and conducted a thorough check of the entire residence. No smoke or fire was found, and all units returned to service.

Today’s daylight crews had a great opportunity to spend some time out in the community!

Members attended a Touch a Truck event at Heritage Hills Townhomes, giving residents and kids a chance to check out the apparatus, meet our firefighters, and learn a little more about what we do. Later in the day, crews were also invited to a community event at Calvary Chapel South Pittsburgh in West Elizabeth, where we enjoyed meeting families and spending time with members of the community.

Thank you to Heritage Hills Townhomes and Calvary Chapel South Pittsburgh for inviting Jefferson Hills Fire Rescue!

A great way and quick reference for how much you laid out. Marking the middle and end of your supply bed with a different color of supply line. Easy to catch in a mirror looking back while laying out.

Jefferson Hills Fire Rescue is proud to announce that we have been recognized by the Pennsylvania Office of the State Fire Commissioner as a Gold Standard 100% Participating Department. This distinction means that 100% of our active members hold at least one nationally recognized professional certification through Pro Board or IFSAC.

Jefferson Hills Fire Rescue is now 1 of only 8 departments among the 178 fire departments in Allegheny County and 1 of 50 among the approximately 2,400 departments across Pennsylvania to achieve this level of recognition. We thank our members for continuously upholding the high standards and expectations of our organization. This achievement would not have been possible without their dedication to training, professional development, and service to our community.

This short clip from last night’s fire demonstrates the importance of sleeping with your bedroom door closed. The attached footage is from division 2 of the structure. A closed door can slow the spread of smoke, toxic gases, and extreme heat into your room giving you more time to self rescue or giving us a better chance of reaching you in time. Before you go to sleep tonight, remember to Close Before You Doze.

Jefferson Hills Fire Rescue and mutual aid units were dispatched to the 100 block of Arnoni Drive for multiple callers reporting a house on fire. Deputy-1 arrived to find a two story, single family wood frame dwelling with fire showing from Side A and smoke from all sides and divisions found upon completing his 360.

Engine-1 arrived and assumed the first due engine assignment, securing its own water supply and stretching a 1¾” handline through the front door for fire attack. Engine-2 arrived and assumed the second due engine assignment stretching a backup line through the garage. 301 Engine assumed the first due truck assignment and completed searches of all divisions with negative findings.

Crews contained the fire to the first floor and brought the bulk of it under control within five minutes of arrival. Units operated on the scene for approximately four hours before returning to service.

We are happy to announce that, after more than a year out of service for refurbishment, 180 Truck has officially returned to service.

The apparatus received extensive upgrades, including a complete repaint in our updated color and design scheme, reorganized compartment layouts, a renovated interior, an upgraded emergency and scene lighting package, substantial mechanical work, and numerous additional repairs. This refurbishment will allow us to continue operating the truck well beyond its expected service life while saving the department more than $1.5 million compared with the cost of purchasing a new apparatus.

Thank you to everyone whose time and hard work made this project possible. A special thank you as well to Nicholas Kurta for the photography.
