We are happy to announce that, after more than a year out of service for refurbishment, 180 Truck has officially returned to service.

The apparatus received extensive upgrades, including a complete repaint in our updated color and design scheme, reorganized compartment layouts, a renovated interior, an upgraded emergency and scene lighting package, substantial mechanical work, and numerous additional repairs. This refurbishment will allow us to continue operating the truck well beyond its expected service life while saving the department more than $1.5 million compared with the cost of purchasing a new apparatus.

Today, on duty crews responded to multiple storm related incidents throughout the Borough, including a residence struck by lightning, flooded roadways, downed trees and power lines, and a sinking vehicle with unknown entrapment.

Additionally crews responded to a large water main break in the 1000 block of Antler Drive. Attached below is footage from the water main break.

Jefferson Hills Fire Rescue units were dispatched to the 2200 block of Peters Creek Road for a reported vehicle accident with unknown injuries and a vehicle possibly on fire. Lieutenant 2 arrived on scene and found one vehicle off the roadway, into a tree, and on fire. First arriving crews confirmed that all occupants were safely out of the vehicle.

Engine-1 arrived and deployed its bumper line, bringing the bulk of the fire under control in less than two minutes. Engine-2 arrived shortly after and supplied Engine-1 with additional tank water.

Due to the close proximity of the incident to the creek, the appropriate environmental authorities were notified. Units operated on scene for approximately 1.5 hours before clearing and returning to service. Attracted below is footage from Deputy-1’s perspective.

Jefferson Hills Fire Rescue is proud to announce our partnership with the American Red Cross to provide free smoke detector installations for our residents. Through this program residents of Jefferson Hills may receive 2–4 smoke detectors at no cost, installed by on duty Jefferson Hills Fire Rescue personnel using smoke detectors generously provided by the American Red Cross.

In addition to the installation, our crews will provide residents with important fire safety information and a brief fire safety presentation to help keep their families safe. Appointments are available 7 days a week from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. To schedule an appointment, please contact Jefferson Hills Fire Rescue Station #1 at 412-384-5141 or email [email protected].

Please note that these smoke detector installations and fire safety presentations are not residential fire code inspections and should not be interpreted as certifying that a residence complies with applicable fire codes.

Earlier today, Jefferson Hills Fire Rescue crews responded to the area of New World Drive and North Randolph Drive for a reported water main break.

Crews worked alongside the appropriate utility personnel to secure the scene. The scene was turned over to PA American water to make the repairs.

Today’s crews, alongside Jefferson Hills Police and South East Regional EMS, participated in a Public Safety Day with the Jefferson Hills Summer Recreation Program.

Throughout the event, the kids had the opportunity to meet first responders, check out our apparatus, see the equipment we use every day, and learn a little more about the work we do to help keep our community safe.

Thank you to the Jefferson Hills Summer Recreation Program for inviting us out. We always appreciate the opportunity to spend time with the community and look forward to seeing everyone again next year!

Jefferson Hills Fire Rescue was proud to participate in the City of Clairton’s Stars Over Clairton celebration today.

Our department was honored to have four apparatus and nine members representing Jefferson Hills throughout the parade and festivities. We were also happy to provide our UTV to the Clairton Police Department for use during the event.

Thank you to the City of Clairton for hosting a great celebration and we appreciate the opportunity to support our neighboring communities.

Today at approximately 1:26 PM, while traveling on State Route 837 through the City of Clairton, Jefferson Hills Fire Rescue Engine-2 was flagged down by a male near the intersection of State Route 837 and Saint Clair Avenue.

As the crew exited the apparatus to make contact, they observed the individual suffering from significant bleeding from his lower body before he collapsed to the ground. Engine-2’s crew immediately initiated patient care and quickly determined the patient had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Engine-2 immediately requested additional resources while continuing lifesaving care. Engine-1, which was traveling a short distance ahead of Engine-2, turned around and responded to the scene to assist. Crews continued providing patient care until the arrival of EMS, at which time the patient was transported to a local Trauma Center.

The incident remains under investigation by the Allegheny County Police Department in conjunction with the City of Clairton Police Department.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Allegheny County Police Department, the City of Clairton Police Department, or Allegheny County 9-1-1.

As this remains an active investigation, no additional information will be released by Jefferson Hills Fire Rescue.
