This Earth Day consider this exercise.
-Take a sheet of 8.5 x 11 piece of paper. Fold it in thirds.
The earth is 70% water represented by a little more than 2 of these sections.
-Rip off one section,
This represents all the land on this planet. 13.4 Billion Hectares
-Rip off a side of this section roughly the size of a business card.
This represents all the land that can be used for agriculture. 5 billion Hectares.
- Fold this piece in thirds.
Slightly more than 2 sections (70%) represents pasture land that is only usable for live stock. 3.5 Billion Hectares.
- Rip of one section.
This is all of the Arable land. 1.4 Billion Hectares.
- Carefully rip off 1/10th from this section.
This is Arable land that is used for materials like wood, bio-plastics, and bi-fuels. 790 Million Hectares

The remaining paper represents the land left for growing food and feed. 1.29 billion Hectares. 27% of the Global Agricultural Land Available which is only 37% of the total land available on this planet.

Although the numbers look like a decent amount, look at what is left from the original sheet. That is all we have to feed the entire population of this planet.

I am no environmentalist. Nor am I a Climate Alarmist. This should, however, give all of us pause though to consider sustainable efforts for the benefit of this blue ball we live on and to continue investigating sustainable methods to feed our people.
