June marks the completion of the second year of the Missouri Rural Food Access Partnership (MRFAP) grant, and this session will provide a comprehensive update on the progress made toward strengthening healthy food access across rural Missouri. Participants will learn about advancements toward creating a statewide healthy food financing initiative and hear highlights from key projects and partner contributions.

This webinar will also introduce the first draft of the Missouri Good Food Charter—developed by MRFAP members to outline the most urgent food system priorities necessary to ensure all Missourians can access nutritious, affordable food. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore ways to get involved and help shape the future of rural food access efforts.

Attention Rural Health Stakeholders:

Missouri’s Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP), a federally funded initiative designed to strengthen and redesign rural healthcare delivery, continues to move forward with several major developments.

On May 15, the Missouri Department of Social Services (DSS) released the official county groupings for the ToRCH Care community “Hubs” that will help organize rural healthcare services across the state. DSS also opened the Request for Applications (RFA) process for organizations interested in serving as Hub Anchors, which will coordinate regional partnerships and support care integration efforts within each Hub.

These Hubs are a central component of Missouri’s strategy to improve care coordination, strengthen local healthcare systems, expand access to services, and address community-specific health needs through collaboration among hospitals, clinics, EMS, pharmacies, and community-based organizations.

Additional opportunities for engagement, including Roadshows, webinars, and procurement updates, are also now available for rural healthcare organizations and community partners across Missouri.

Through the National Rural Age-Friendly Initiative supported by The John A. Hartford Foundation, NRHA encourages states to integrate rural age-friendly care initiatives and older adult health priorities into their Rural Health Transformation Program implementation. As rural communities continue to face provider shortages, access barriers, and growing healthcare needs among older adults, age-friendly strategies can help strengthen long-term access to care and support healthier rural communities.

This virtual session takes a practical look at how the health workforce can be better equipped to address social determinants of health (SDOH) through stronger collaboration across sectors. Participants will explore how factors affecting health are shaped by healthcare, public health, social services, policy, and community conditions—and how working together across those areas can lead to better outcomes.

The session will cover real-world strategies to strengthen workforce readiness, including community partnerships, public-private collaboration, and applied research. Participants will also discuss how technology tools like shared data systems, digital platforms, and decision-support resources can help improve coordination, support prevention efforts, and advance health equity.

MRHA Executive Director, Heidi Lucas, is in San Diego this week representing the organization!

She is joined by 40 other Rural Health leaders from across Missouri and this picture includes a small portion of them representing FQHCs, researchers, university staff, hospitals, RHCs, philanthropy, AHECs, and state staff.

It’s going to take all of us to move the needle for rural Missouri and we are excited about the breath and scope of all of the partners who attended this week!

MRHA has enjoyed connecting with partners and community leaders this week at the Missouri Community Action Network 2026 Annual Conference.

MRHA's Community and Digital Advocacy Manager Libby Trammell, LCSW, had the privilege of sharing how tools like The Causeway can help strengthen collaboration across rural Missouri's healthcare landscape through resource sharing, advocacy, and community engagement.

As the conference wraps up today, we’re excited to keep the conversation going beyond the event and continue building connections that support rural communities across the state.

The Missouri Rural Health Association (MRHA) has received a $150,000 donation from Aetna to lead a statewide initiative focused on improving EMS response and outcomes for high-risk obstetric patients and critically ill newborns in rural and medically underserved Missouri communities.

In partnership with the ShoMe MIH Network®, the EMS High Risk OB Training Initiative will train approximately 250 EMS and Mobile Integrated Healthcare clinicians through simulation-based education, regional training events, readiness assessments, and expanded telehealth connections to specialty providers. The initiative is designed to strengthen emergency maternal and newborn care across Missouri, particularly in rural areas facing significant barriers to access.
