Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief

Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief is a cooperative, volunteer ministry of the Missouri Baptist Convention and its affiliated churches.

State Baptist conventions have trained more than 24,000 volunteers to respond to national disasters. Trained volunteers affiliate with task-specific disaster relief units operated by state conventions. Responsibilities include food preparation, cleanup and recovery, repair and rebuild, communications, crisis counseling, water purification, and shower units.

September is National Preparedness Month!

For Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief, preparedness is more than having supplies ready — it is part of how we serve churches, families, and communities with wisdom and compassion when crisis comes.

This month is a good reminder to take a few simple steps:
✅ Make a plan to keep you and your family safe and prepared. The plan should include emergency contact information, emergency meeting places and medical information.
✅ Build a kit with the essential items your family needs to stay safe and comfortable if something happens.
✅ Be there for your community...from volunteering in your community to learning skills like first aid and CPR, you can take steps to prepare for disasters and keep your family safe and make your neighborhood and community more resilient. Take a training with MODR in order to be ready to respond.

MODR volunteers are currently on the ground in Indiana responding to disaster needs and bringing practical help and gospel hope to communities impacted by recent storms and flooding.
We currently have volunteers serving through:
Chainsaw recovery
Flood recovery
Mass Care/Feeding
Damage assessment
Chaplain ministry
Shower/laundry support
Incident management

Please continue to pray for the families affected, the local churches and communities responding, and the MODR volunteers serving long days in difficult conditions.

MODR volunteers served in and around Lesterville for the last two weeks, serving in feeding, chaplaincy, shower/laundry, IMT, and most recently, our college team was assisting with Flood Recovery and helping homeowners clean up and prepare for the rebuilding process. Way to go to all of our volunteers!

This weekend, MODR Blue Hats gathered in Jefferson City for our Blue Hat Training and Roundtable — a time of leadership development, encouragement, fellowship, and preparation for continued disaster relief ministry.
We were especially grateful to celebrate 40 years of Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief ministry and to reflect on the faithful service, leadership, and compassion that have shaped MODR through the years. For four decades, Missouri Baptists have responded in times of disaster with a commitment to bring help, hope, and healing in the name of Christ.
Thank you to all of the former MODR State Directors who were able to be with us and share stories and wisdom from MODR's past. We are grateful for the legacy of the past 40 years and excited for what God has ahead!

MODR is responding to the flooding in Southeast Missouri. We've got feeding and shower teams deployed and serving the community in Lesterville. Pray for the volunteers and those impacted by the flood.

MODR volunteers from Heart of Missouri Baptist Association and Freshwater Church: Jeff City have been working in Osage City after the July 4th windstorm and have helped over 15 families so far! Thankful for this group of folks bringing Help, Hope, and Healing to those in need!
