Utility marks are only part of the information you need before excavation begins.

Your Missouri 811 ticket's Positive Responses provide documentation from the utilities notified about your excavation.

Before you dig:

✓ Confirm every utility has responded.
✓ Review each response individually.
✓ Make sure you understand the status provided.
✓ Compare the responses with what you see at the jobsite.

If something doesn't look right, don't assume. Resolve the discrepancy before excavation begins.

A few extra minutes reviewing your ticket can prevent a much bigger problem underground.

📏 How much room is there around a utility locate?

When underground utilities are marked, the markings don’t necessarily show the exact location of the facility. The tolerance zone accounts for the possibility that a utility may be located to either side of the mark.

That’s why knowing where the tolerance zone begins and how to safely work within it is an important part of excavation planning.

Before you put equipment in the ground, make sure you understand the locate marks and the tolerance zone for the utilities in your work area.
