🚩 Do you know what these colors mean?

Before any digging project, locators come out and mark underground utilities with color-coded flags and paint. Here’s your cheat sheet:

🔴 Red — Electric power lines, cables, conduit
🟡 Yellow — Gas, oil, steam, petroleum
🟠 Orange — Telecommunications, cable TV, fiber
🔵 Blue — Potable water
🟢 Green — Sewer and drain lines
⚪ White — Proposed excavation area
🟣 Purple — Reclaimed water, irrigation

Next time you see flags in the ground at a job site (or your neighbor’s yard), you’ll know exactly what’s going on underground.

Ever notice the colorful flags and paint marks popping up around your yard or a job site? 🎨

Those markings are part of a standardized utility color code from the American Public Works Association, designed so everyone can quickly understand what’s underground.

Each color represents a different type of utility, helping crews andhomeowners avoid accidental damage and work safely. Knowing what the colors mean helps prevent utility strikes and keeps projects running smoothly.
