Have you ever seen pink flags or markings in the ground and wondered what they mean?

Pink is used for temporary survey markings. Surveyors use these markings to identify reference points and locations needed for surveying, layout and other project work.

Unlike other colors you may see at a job site, pink does not represent a specific type of underground utility.

And remember, please don’t pull or move the flags! These markings are there for a reason and need to remain in place so crews can do their jobs safely and accurately.

Knowing what each color means can help you better understand the markings in your work area and work safely around them.
