Jefferson City Athletic Events The AEC exists to attract a wide variety of sporting event opportunities.

The AEC volunteers their time and energy for signature events such as the MSHSAA Track & Field and Cross Country Championships and The Ford Enthusiast Nationals and Shelbyfest. The Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau Athletic Events Committee (AEC) has grown into a key group of volunteers involved in supporting athletic events in Jefferson City. A decision was made within the committee t

o merge the AEC group with Jefferson City Outdoors in an effort to fully harness the resources each group contributes to continue attracting sports tourism to the state capital. The Athletic Events Committee is an invaluable group of local residents that volunteer their time and energy for signature sporting events such as MSHSAA Track and Field and Cross Country Championships and Special Olympics Missouri State Outdoor Games. Jefferson City also hosts numerous baseball and softball tournaments, the Capital City Holiday Hoops Showcase, disc golf, state rugby and more. With the increasing popularity of road and adventure races, several of these events have also planted their roots in Jefferson City including the annual Prison Break Race, uniquely themed from the infamous decommissioned Missouri State Penitentiary. This page was created in order to generate public awareness of athletic events happening in Jefferson City and related sports tourism efforts as well as community sporting events.

The American Solar Challenge is a competition to design, build, and drive solar-powered cars in a cross-country time/distance rally event. Teams compete over a 1,500-2,000 mile course between multiple cities across the country. The event has had over two decades of organized events in North America.

On July 22, the challenge will come through Jefferson City for a pit stop at the Missouri State Capitol. Racers will be stopping sporadically throughout the day from 11:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., breaking at the checkpoint for approximately 45 minutes. Spectators are welcome.

The American Solar Challenge is one of only two solar car races in the world - come cheer on the racers and join us in welcoming the racers to JCMO.
