Shout-out to Dr. Kyle Dare and Gina Zervos from Rolla 31 for sharing their expertise at the Missouri School Boards’ Association conference!

Their session highlighted the district’s year-long citizens academy, which helps community members better understand public education, find reliable information, and build trust with their schools. They shared a framework school board members can share with their district leadership for their own districts.

Congrats to Morgan Buresh with MSTA on her 2026 Award of Excellence! Morgan earned a win in the Multi-Person Video Category for her submission entitled "Brick by Brick."

This award-winning video pairs competition footage with interviews to spotlight educator Josh Blattner’s masonry program and his work preparing students for careers in the trade. Created for MSTA’s School & Community magazine, it highlights Career and Technical Education while introducing MSTA to more St. Louis-area educators. It became MSTA’s most-viewed Facebook video of the 2025–26 school year, earning 11,523 views and 40 shares and reaching audiences beyond its existing followers.

Congrats to Mary LaPak with Rockwood School District on her 2026 Award of Excellence! Mary earned a win in the Photography Category for her submission entitled "Memory Lane."

She captured a joyful, spontaneous hug between a graduating senior and three younger students during the district’s annual Senior Walks. The award-winning photo celebrates the connections built throughout a student’s school journey and the milestones ahead for younger learners. Featured in Senior Walks social media slideshows, it helped tell a story that earned nearly 38,000 views and 2,700 interactions across Facebook, Instagram, and X.

Congrats to Curtis Brennecke with the Rockwood School District on his 2026 Award of Excellence! Curtis earned a win in the Multi-Person Video Category for his submission entitled "Faces of Rockwood."

Curtis captured bus driver Dustin Ray’s warmth and connections with students and families in this popular video. By following Dustin along his routes, Curtis highlighted the rewards of driving a school bus while celebrating a staff member whose work makes a daily difference. The video supports recruitment and staff recognition, earning more than 12,000 views and 900 interactions across YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and X.

Congrats to Craig Vonder Haar with the School District of Washington on his 2026 Award of Excellence! Craig earned a win in the Photography Category for his submission entitled "Student Welder."

It's challenging to get a great photo of a welder! Craig's shot shows the composition, using the rule of thirds, with the focal point in the bottom left. The sparks caught in action and the vice grips bring the eye to that point. The details of the welding hood and jacket keep the viewer active.
