Our Veterans served in all types of weather conditions, we honor them in a little cold and rainy weather. Jay VFW and Amvets layed wreaths at the Fayette and Livermore Veteran's Memorials as well as the Memorial Bridge in Livermore Falls. Thank you to the dedicated observers who showed up!

Remember our veterans on Memorial Day

Livermore, Livermore Falls, Jay (and Fayette): Wreath-laying services will be held on Monday, May 25, at select war me-morials in the area. The first takes place at 7:20 a.m. at the Fayette War Memorial, 2589 Main St. The second occurs at 7:45 a.m. at the Livermore Brettuns War Memorial at Federal Road and Church Street. The third service will take place at 8:10 a.m. at the Livermore Falls Memorial Bridge crossing the Androscoggin River. The ceremonies at each location will have members from their local veterans organizations — Jay VFW Post 3335, American Veterans Post 33 and American Legion Post 10 — in attendance. There will also be a color guard, opening and closing prayers, and a rifle squad.

The towns will host their annual parade later that morning at 10 a.m. Veterans will ride in vehicles from Amvets Post 33 at 111 Main St. in Jay, led by Franklin County Sheriff’s Office vehicle. Participants in the parade will line up at Memco Inc. at 102 Main St. before being joined by local fire and emergency crews at Spruce Mountain High School, at 25 Cedar St. in Livermore Falls.

Along the route, there will be wreath-laying ceremonies planned at Chisholm Square World War II Memorial in front of St. Rose Church in Jay, Richardson Cemetery on Crash Road in Jay, and the war memorial at Union Park in Livermore Falls. There will be a food truck for parade participants to enjoy at the end of the procession.

At noon, the Jay Veterans of Foreign Wars Post at 64 Jewell St. will hold its traditional chicken barbecue.

The menu will feature a half chicken, macaroni salad, chips and a homemade cookie. The cost is $16, with proceeds going to the VFW to help support our programs. Anyone interested in getting a meal is asked to order by by calling 897-5112. We are serving 250 meals! Almost 200 reserved as of today!

The Jay VFW for over 50 years has been cooking up chicken as a way to unite our community in remembrance. Please join us for a take-out lunch directly following the honor guard graveside services and parade completion, as we pay heartfelt tribute to our fallen heroes on Monday May 25th. This is hands down the most special meal of the year, and the public is cordially invited to attend as our honored guest. So kindly place those orders by calling 897-5112.
