Stumbled upon this deeply moving exhibit at the Chief Vann house in Chatsworth. The display features the story of David and Delilah McNairโs gravestone. In 1839, the grieving McNair family paid Irish stonemason Henry Fitzsimmonsโwho famously settled in Pickens County, Georgia, in the mid-1830s and was a pioneer in the marble industry, $150 to carve the monument from stunning Georgia Marble.
Itโs incredible to think of the enduring legacy tied right back to our local roots through craftsmen like Fitzsimmons and the timeless beauty of Georgia Marble. History lives all around us if we take a moment to look!
