Whew! We are managing to keep things alive via sprinkler on about 80% of the SFA Gardens kingdom but itโ€™s not easy! Itโ€™s the recently planted thatโ€™s giving us a headache. For the youngsters were in the 2.5 to 3โ€ class A pan evaporation mode per week. Tough times especially for young plants. Goal is 2.5 gallons per week for a new tree or shrub. Mix drought, heat and wild pig parties at night - no wonder weโ€™re a little testy! Who said gardening was easy? SFA Gardens Nacogdoches Tx

๐ŸŒธ Keep the Color Coming!

If your crape myrtles and vitex are still putting on a spectacular show, now is the perfect time to help them bloom even longer!

As soon as the flower clusters begin to fade, snip off the spent blooms. This simple practice, called deadheading, encourages the plant to redirect its energy into producing new growth and another flush of flowers instead of making seeds.

โœ‚๏ธ A few quick tips:
๐ŸŒฟ Remove only the faded flower clustersโ€”avoid heavy pruning during the heat of summer.
๐ŸŒฟ Use clean, sharp pruners for a healthy cut.
๐ŸŒฟ Water deeply during extended dry spells to reduce stress and support continued blooming.
๐ŸŒฟ A light application of mulch helps keep roots cool and conserve moisture during the Texas heat.
With just a few minutes of care, many crape myrtles and vitex will reward you with weeks of additional color that brighten your landscape well into late summer.

๐ŸŒบ A little pruning today means more blooms tomorrow! So you can... Keep Planting Happiness, Y'all!
