All teens ages 12-18 are welcome to join us as we start our month discussing belonging tonight, 6-7:30 pm! Last month on identity was so enriching to dive into who God is and to know who we are through Him.

"Fear not, I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine." -Isaiah 43:1

Weeks 17-20 Reflection

We have learned David's story--one of heartfelt pursuing of God's heart and mind, but saturated by the pursuit of his enemies. For goodness sake, king Saul tried to kill him about a dozen times! David chooses to make some serious sins, yet he asks God for repentance and He grants it. Below are a few excerpts from the Psalms David wrote. His words live on, and David is a great model for continuing to seek God in the midst of difficulty and poor choices.

Weeks 13 - 16 Reflection

Over the past several weeks, we have been learning about Gideon, Samson, Samuel, and the life of David and Saul. Perhaps the most widely-known story of David is defeating Goliath, which is outstanding. But the most personally impactful story for me has been when he finally gets the opportunity to kill king Saul, who has been relentlessly trying to kill David for years, and he chooses not to. He chooses forgiveness and honor because Saul was "the Lord's anointed one".

When someone wrongs you, it's so tempting to want to get them back in some way. It's so tempting to hold resentment and anger, but David is a man after God's own heart, and he shows us that God's way is always the best way. We sin by giving into our flesh frequently, but God is quick to forgive and so should we be.

Week 12 reflection

Joshua. A book punctuated by God's instruction of Joshua to be strong and courageous; and yet, he has moments of worry. We meet Rahab, whose faith in God saved her despite her reputation. The Lord parts the Jordan River at peak harvest time so the Israelites may cross safely. They fought the battle of Jericho and knocked those walls down by shouting at the Lord's command. Ai defeats the Israelites because of one man's sin of stealing what belongs to the Lord. God's people defeated the Amorites and the sun and moon STOOD STILL.

Our God is an awesome, powerful, just God. The book of Joshua teaches us to be strong and courageous because our God is a mighty, loving God and He fights for us.

Week 11 Reflection

We've made it to Deuteronomy! Moses is giving his final speech before the Israelites cross the Jordan into the Promised Land. In these readings, the Lord warns us against idolatry, pride, murder, and apostasy.

We remember that God is SO good to us. He continues to seek a relationship with us, no matter how much we stray. We rejoice in His provision and His relationship. We are joyful this week because of the joy we find in Christ!

Week 10 Reflection

We finished the book of Numbers, and it was much more interesting than its title implies! We had to pick our jaws up off the floor when learning of the earth splitting in two at Moses'/God's command and consuming people when they rebelled...and again when hearing a donkey speak!

God is good, and He provides for His people. Even when Moses became a rebel by striking the rock instead of speaking to it as commanded, water still flowed for the people. Moses won't get to live in the Promised Land because of it, but I have a feeling He's in a better place than Canaan right now. 'sWarrior

We're in the book of Numbers now, which is called "In the Wilderness" in Hebrew. The large census God commands Moses and leaders to complete is a sure sign that God has provided for His people for over one year in the wilderness. There are millions of people, following His pillar of cloud and fire, and quite a bit of rebellion is happening. We're enjoying some pretty under-rated Bible stories. Two of Aaron's sons have been burned alive by God because they didn't obey; the ground opened up and swallowed Korah, Dathan, and Abiram and their families for disobeying God; and God reveals that Aaron is His chosen leader by making his staff blossom and produce almonds overnight.

God has threatened to kill them all at least 3 times at this point, with Moses intervening each time, begging God to have mercy on His people and remember His covenant with them.
Stay tuned for the rest of the story!
