As an aside to the construction of our agrivoltaic teaching array at the Potts Mountain Biological Field Station, we're using the transmission line right-of-way as a control area to examine soil conditioning efforts prior to installation of the panels. We hope to demonstrate that preconditioning efforts attenuate soil compaction during photovoltaic construction. In this particular control area quadrat, we're using a very low cost method of sowing wild oats. Not sure how the compaction reduction efforts will turn out, but the turkeys (mostly toms) are certainly fond of the oat treatment plots.
