Our biggest asset at JAFSC is, and always will be, our staff. 💚

Kim and Makensie shared their kinship care journeys at the ANFRC Statewide Gathering. Because of their lived experience, they are able to connect with participants in a meaningful way, offering understanding, encouragement, and hope to families walking similar paths.

In Alabama, more than 100,000 children live in homes headed by grandparents or other relatives, highlighting the vital role kinship caregivers play in keeping families connected and children supported.

“Kinship care is more than providing a home—it’s preserving family, culture, and a child’s sense of belonging.”

We are grateful for staff members who are willing to share their stories and use their experiences to strengthen families across our community.

We are loving the opportunity to connect with friends and colleagues from across the state at the ANFRC Statewide Gathering!

Today, we explored the importance of using data to tell our story and how to tailor that story to different audiences—from legislators and funders to community partners and families. The numbers matter, but it’s the impact behind them that truly makes a difference.

We can’t wait to see what Day 2 has in store for us!

Fun fact: Did you know Kim has done just about everything? One of her many jobs was working at a bait shop in Arkansas. Needless to say, she felt right at home during our visit to the Maritime Museum today! 🎣🚤

In observance of Memorial Day, the Jasper Area Family Services Center office will be closed today. We hope everyone has a safe and meaningful holiday as we reflect on the true meaning of this day.

This conference brings together workforce development professionals from across the nation to learn innovative strategies, build partnerships, and explore new ways to strengthen communities through workforce initiatives. From employment services and career readiness to family support and community collaboration, the knowledge gained here directly impacts the work we do every day.

JAFSC staff had a wonderful time attending the NAVIGATE Nonprofit Network Conference in Huntsville on Tuesday!

NAVIGATE brings together nonprofit professionals, board members, and community leaders from across Alabama to learn, collaborate, and strengthen the work being done in our communities. The conference covered topics such as nonprofit leadership, governance, grant writing, fundraising, finance, marketing, and community engagement — all designed to help organizations grow stronger and better serve families now and in the future.

At Jasper Area Family Services Center, we deeply value professional growth and ongoing learning opportunities for our staff. Investing in training and development allows our team to bring back fresh ideas, innovative strategies, and new resources that directly benefit the children and families we serve every day. Conferences like NAVIGATE help strengthen our organization, improve the quality of our programs, and ensure we are continuing to grow alongside the changing needs of our community.

🎉🎂 Happy Birthday, McKayla! 🎂🎉

Today we’re celebrating McKayla Rickles, our new Kinship Coordinator at the Jasper Area Family Service Center! While she has only been with us for about 4 months, we have already loved having her on our team. McKayla brings so much creativity, humor, and friendliness everywhere she goes! 💚

One thing McKayla loves most about her job? Her coworkers… of course! 😉
