Have a Heart Save a Heart
We are asking for donations to help purchase an Automated External Defibrillators (AED) for sports fields at Shakamak Youth League. Our fundraising goal is $1500, to cover the cost of an AED and a mountable, weather resistant box for storage.
DID YOU KNOW:
Sudden cardiac arrest (SCAs) are the leading cause of death among young athletes. - National Institute of Health
An AED increases the chance of survival of an SCA victim by 75%.
Even an untrained individual can intervene by following the simple instructions that accompany an AED.
For each minute shock is delayed, the chances for survival decrease by 10% - Red Cross
AEDs should be placed in high traffic areas within 3 minutes of possible collapse.
For all of these reasons, we feel the need to place a defibrillator at Shakamak Youth League. It is our goal to purchase one AED for the concession stand. This is a central location for the facilities and accessible during games and practices. The AED will also be available for homecoming and any co-ed softball tournaments hosted at Hannah Field. If we are able to surpass our goal additional funds will be donated to the Youth League to cover costs associated with training for AEDs and CPR/ First Aid.
