We got a front-row seat to something special. 🩵

Our team visited Stateline Boys & Girls Club to see firsthand the incredible work happening for young people in our community.

A teaching kitchen serving up to 215 hot meals a day. Mindfulness rooms where kids can step away and recenter. A sound booth with a green screen where teens are already dreaming up podcasts. A graduation specialist walking alongside students who need it most. And staff who show up every single day because those kids are counting on them.

CEO Mark put it simply: "If you don't stand up on the table for the kids you serve, who will?"

Literacy is not just a classroom issue. It is an economic one. 📚

Our team recently visited Stateline Literacy Council Beloit and were honored to receive a Certificate of Recognition from Executive Director Ann Ward on behalf of the organization. For more than 50 years, State Line has been helping immigrants and families in our community build the English skills they need for work, for school, and for life.

Today their work is expanding into worksite literacy, meeting employers and employees where they are. Consider this: U.S. businesses lose an estimated $2.2 trillion a year due to low workplace literacy. State Line is doing something about that, one student at a time.

Ann and her team have more than 50 years of community roots and a mission that has never wavered. We are proud to invest in their work.

Rock County (WI) and Northern Winnebago County (IL), meet Sue Murray.

Sue is United Way Blackhawk Region's new Community Impact Director and she comes ready. She served as Community Impact Director at Oshkosh Area United Way, where she coordinated grant funding, supported partner agencies, and built the kind of community partnerships that actually hold. She also brings deep compliance expertise from her work in affordable housing, which means she understands both the precision this work demands and the people it serves.

A few things you should know about Sue right away: her favorite color is pink and she commits to it. And if you need her on a summer evening, there is a good chance she is watching the Brewers. Go Brew Crew. ⚾🩷

Sue is ready to meet the Blackhawk Region and we think the Blackhawk Region should introduce itself right back.

This region has always had heart. Neighbors who show up. Organizations doing real work. Businesses that invest in the people around them. United Way Blackhawk Region exists to bring all of that together and make it go further.

We are here and we are leaning in. Connecting residents to resources, investing in partners who deliver real impact, and building a stronger community one door at a time.

Your investment doesn't stop at a donation. It walks through doors, sits in classrooms, and shows up for families across our community.

Last week, Sue and Michelle from the United Way Blackhawk Region team joined the Community Action, Inc. Roadshow, a full-day look at the programs we are proud to fund at Community Action. At United Way Blackhawk Region, we don't fund organizations. We fund programs. Specific, strategic work that connects people to what they need to thrive.

That looks like youth with a safe place to learn after school 📚, families connected to food and support 🤝, parents who can stay employed because child care is within reach 👶, young people earning diplomas and job skills 🎓, seniors staying active and informed 💛, and young parents finding stable footing 🏠.

Days like this remind us why partnerships matter. Thank you, Community Action, for showing us what impact looks like in action.
