The 2026 FIFA World Cup is officially underway, and the Philadelphia region is preparing to welcome thousands of visitors from around the world in the weeks ahead. ⚽

Major events like the World Cup bring excitement, connection, and economic opportunity to our communities. However, they can also create conditions where exploitation is more likely to occur. Increased tourism, temporary labor demands, crowded hospitality systems, and economic vulnerability can contribute to heightened risks of both s*x trafficking and labor trafficking.

That’s why awareness matters.

At NOVA, and through the Bucks Coalition Against Trafficking (BCAT), we are committed to educating our community about human trafficking, empowering individuals to recognize warning signs, and supporting those impacted by exploitation. As our region welcomes visitors for this global event, we encourage everyone to stay informed and be aware of the signs of trafficking.

Keeping kids safe online starts with informed conversations. NOVA is partnering with PA State Rep. Joe Hogan to host a free, in-person discussion on s*xtortion. Hear from law enforcement, victim advocates, and prevention specialists about how s*xtortion occurs, how cases are addressed, and what families can do to prevent it. On Monday, representatives from NOVA joined survivors, advocates, and s*xual assault service providers in Harrisburg for the "1 Year Later" Rally for Sexual Assault Survivors. Organized by local r**e crisis centers and survivor advocates, the rally marked one year since we last gathered at the Capitol to urge lawmakers to invest in the critical services survivors rely on for healing and support.

NOVA is one of 47 r**e crisis centers across Pennsylvania that has not received an increase in state funding in six years.

Despite this lack of investment, r**e crisis centers continue to provide free, confidential services 24/7 to more than 27,000 survivors of s*xual violence and their loved ones each year. While the state budget process has overlooked these essential services, we remain committed to standing with survivors every step of the way.

Join us in supporting survivors and calling on Pennsylvania lawmakers to increase funding for r**e crisis centers in this year's state budget. Survivors deserve access to the services they need—and those services deserve sustainable funding.

Last Friday at our annual staff picnic, we had the privilege of celebrating the retirement of beloved NOVA Counselor Kevin Keller. 🧡

Throughout the past decade, Kevin has supported countless survivors and helped shape NOVA’s counseling services through his compassion, expertise, and unwavering commitment to those we serve. His impact extends far beyond our walls, reaching the many individuals and families who found healing, hope, and support through his care.

Kevin’s legacy is reflected not only in his accomplishments, but also in the kindness, humor, wisdom, and steady presence he brought to our team each day. He has touched so many lives through his work, mentorship, and dedication, and NOVA is stronger because of him.

Please join us in thanking Kevin for 10 incredible years of service and in wishing him all the happiness, adventure, and fulfillment retirement has to offer!
