Pastor Mark, Dr. John DeLancey, and several from our Hillcrest family continue their journey through Israel and Greece. Today’s sites included Azekah and the Valley of Elah—the setting for one of the Bible’s most familiar stories.

They shared, “From the heights of Azekah, we could see biblical Gath, Goliath’s hometown, just 5–6 miles to the west. Behind us in this picture stretched the Valley of Elah, where the Philistine and Israelite armies faced one another in 1 Samuel 17. The Philistines camped along the ridge between Azekah and Socoh, and in the narrow portion of the valley below, young David stepped forward to face Goliath.”

Pastor Mark said, “Standing there brings the story to life. David walked into that valley facing an overwhelming giant—not with confidence in his own strength, but with confidence in the Lord!”

What a reminder for whatever giants we may be facing today!

If you are in Christ, you’ve been called to the greatest mission the world will ever know. This morning in his message “You Are Sent” Pastor Zach will help us explore what it means to be sent by Jesus. Jesus’ command 2,000 years ago is just as relevant today. God desires to work through every one of us to share the Good News with all who are separated from Him, and He provides all that we need to obey His call. What an honor and privilege to play a part in the greatest mission the world will ever know.
