The Fentress County Emergency Communications District is accepting applications for 911 Telecommunicator. Applications may be picked up at the 911 Center located at 116 Justice Center Dr. Jamestown Tn. between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday – Friday.

Duties Include but are not Limited to:
- Answers emergency (911) and non-emergency calls.
- Determines type, location, and extent of emergency and inputs data into the districts Computer Aided Dispatch system.
- Relays information to appropriate emergency personnel via the dispatch radio console
- Assists callers with basic life support procedures.
- Reads maps and gives directions to the location of the incident.
- Enters information such as stolen vehicle, stolen weapons, s*x offenders, orders of protection, and wanted / missing individuals into State and Federal Database.
- Attends training sessions as required.
- Employees may be required to wear a headset and sit/stand for long periods of time.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be a US citizen.
- Must be able to pass a drug test.
- Must pass a TBI criminal background check.
- Must have good communications skills.
- Must be able to remain calm under stressful situations.
- Must be able to work flexible hours.
- Not have been convicted or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge or to any violation of any federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances.
- Previous dispatch experience preferred but not required.
The following certifications must be obtained within 6 months of the hire date. Fentress County 911 will provide the training for anyone hired for the position,
- Basic Telecommunicator Certification
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
- National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Query Certification

Additional information
Starting Salary is $14.50 an hour, $15.50 after training and certification.

Fentress County E-911 serves the citizens of Fentress County. The mission of Fentress County 911 is to serve as the vital link between citizens and the emergency responders of Fentress County by providing emergency and non-emergency services in a prompt, courteous, and efficient manner.

The dispatchers at Fentress County 911 are the initial emergency contact for providing life-saving assistance over the phone while dispatching Law Enforcement, EMS, Fire, Rescue, Emergency Management and first responders to incidents. Fentress County 911 serves the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

This position requires a high level of responsibility, flexibility, attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and maintain privacy and confidentiality.

Message from the 911/Emergency Operations Center.

On Friday, September 27, 2024, we anticipate windy conditions throughout the day and into the night, with sustained winds between 25-30 mph and gusts reaching 35-40 mph. Periods of rain, including heavy rainfall, are expected as Hurricane Helene transitions to a tropical storm.

We will provide an updated report tomorrow evening following the statewide weather briefing.

The National Weather Service in Nashville has issued a severe Thunderstorm Warning for northeastern Overton County, Pickett County, and northern Fentress County in Middle Tennessee until 5:45 PM CDT. At 5:09 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Byrdstown, moving east at 50 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include Jamestown, Byrdstown, Pall Mall, and Pickett State Park.

Tornado Warning for northeastern Overton County in Middle Tennessee and western Pickett County in Middle Tennessee until 5:30 PM CDT. At 4:58 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Livingston, moving northeast at 20 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.
SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.
IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.

This tornadic thunderstorm will remain over mainly rural areas of northeastern Overton and western Pickett Counties.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
