Norfolk County Raises the Flag for World Polio Day.

Today, Norfolk County recognized World Polio Day (October 24) and the global End Polio Now campaign with a special flag-raising ceremony in the town centre.

Councilman Adam Veri, who is also a member of the Rotary Club of Simcoe, attended the ceremony and shared remarks highlighting the importance of this global initiative.

It was a proud and meaningful moment for everyone in attendance as we came together to raise awareness of the ongoing fight to eradicate polio worldwide.

Pictured at the ceremony are Norfolk Sunrise Rotarians President Pam S, John W., Lisa B., Wolf L., and Cathy H., alongside Councilman Adam Veri.

Thank you to Norfolk County for recognizing World Polio Day and supporting Rotary’s ongoing efforts to make polio a disease of the past. Together, we can help build a polio-free world for future generations!
Please consider donating. Every cent counts. https://www.endpolio.org/

Very sad news to share

There are people who come into your life, and you know almost instantly that they will always be someone important. Those words could not be more true of John.

Yesterday, we learned that John passed away over the weekend, and it is utterly heartbreaking to think that someone who brought so much kindness, generosity, and Rotary spirit into the world is no longer with us.

John was a dedicated leader of the Ellicottville Rotary Club, serving as its president for so many years. He led with kindness, enthusiasm, and a genuine commitment to serving others. Whether in his adopted home of Ellicottville or wherever life took him, John was someone who showed up, offered a helping hand, and made a difference in the lives of others.

On a personal note, as Olean Rotary President Paula, considered John a mentor. He taught me so much about Rotary, about leadership, and about what it truly means to serve others. His example was a reminder that Rotary is about so much more than meetings and projects. It is about the people we meet, the relationships we build, and the difference we make along the way.

John leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and service that will continue to inspire those of us fortunate enough to have known him.

He will be deeply missed, and we look forward to finding a way to celebrate his life, his friendship, and the lasting impact he made on Rotary and our community.

Rest peacefully, John. Thank you for your friendship, your mentorship, and for reminding us all what it means to live a life of service.

MEMBERSHIP MONDAY 💙💛
We talk a lot about attracting new members — but how often do we stop and ask our current members what they think?
One of the simplest ways to strengthen a Rotary club is to ask, listen and act.
Ask members what they enjoy.
Ask what could be improved.
Ask newer members what surprised them.
Ask what would make them feel more involved.
Then comes the important part:
Do something with what you hear.
Other simple practices can make a difference too — mentoring new members, creating opportunities for them to share ideas, connecting them socially and making sure they quickly find a meaningful place within the club.
A strong member experience does not happen by accident. It is something we continually build together.
This week, consider asking your members one simple question:
“What is one thing we could do to make your Rotary experience even better?”
Your District 7090 Membership Team is here to help clubs listen, learn and strengthen the member experience.
