Giving Hearts Day

Giving Hearts Day was started in 2008 by Dakota Medical Foundation and Impact Foundation as the region’s first one-day online fundraising event. Donations are made at givingheartsday.org. Participating charities have received Impact Institute training as preparation for year-round fundraising success, and take part in a Giving Hearts Day gear-up intensive for this campaign. On Giving Hearts Day, a chorus of voices, joined with DMF and Impact marketing, creates a flood of compassion, awareness and donations. On February 9, 2017, gifts totaling $10.7 million for 360 charities were received in the 24-hour period. DMF or, in some cases, community donors match gifts of $10 or greater, up to at least $4,000 to each charity. DMF also awards incentives to the charities with the highest donations. Other grants are awarded for the most creative marketing strategy, best use of social media and other categories. All organizations soliciting for Giving Hearts Day have met participation requirements, including attendance at Impact Foundation fundraising training and commitment to other performance and accountability standards.
