New Yorkers should prepare for a nor’easter bringing heavy rain, strong winds and the potential for coastal flooding from Friday through Sunday morning.

I encourage everyone, particularly residents in low lying and flood prone communities, to take precautions and stay informed throughout the weekend. Strong winds could bring down trees and power lines, while heavy rainfall could lead to flooding on roads and in basements.

Please secure outdoor furniture and other loose items, charge your phones and essential devices and allow extra time if you must travel. Never walk or drive through floodwater.

If you live in a basement or ground floor apartment in an area prone to flooding, have a plan to safely move to higher ground if conditions become dangerous. Please also check on older neighbors, family members and anyone who may need additional assistance during the storm.
