“Pasos Por Boston’s Latin Quarter”, a civic engagement project from this summer’s JEA session, invited youth to consider the assets in our community. Whether it’s the small businesses and restaurants, the public spaces, or the beautiful artwork throughout the neighborhood, Boston’s Latin Quarter is full of community assets.

Our JEA youth researched and mapped these assets throughout the past six weeks, and even created beautiful visual representations of them on these Converse sneakers! This artwork is a powerful demonstration of the talent and strength of our community.

Yes, our youth spent the past six weeks in arts training that culminated in last week’s amazing Pa’ La Calle performance, but that’s not all they’ve been doing this summer! Through arts, education, civic engagement, and well-being programming, they learned more than just how to play the guitar and dance bachata. This summer, youth completed projects on place keeping, community asset mapping, wellness resources, the entertainment industry, and more!
