Haymarket People's Fund

Haymarket People's Fund Haymarket is an anti-racist and multi-cultural foundation that is committed to strenghthening the movement for social justice in New England.

Haymarket People's Fund fundraises to financially support radical organizations fighting to undo racism. The organization is run by local community activists doing the work that they are supporting at Haymarket People's Fund. Here is an example of an organization we have supported. In Rhode Island: Fuerza Laboral Power of Workers organized immigrant workers to stop production of a jewelry factory

to protest the nonpayment or low payment of workers. After the protest, the company owner paid the workers and signed a code of conduct agreeing to follow state and federal labor laws and not retaliate against any worker who complains about conditions. Organizations such as Fuerza Laboral are in great need of your support during these hard economic times. Haymarket People’s Fund is currently undergoing a strategic planning process, and reorganizing certain sectors of the organization. However, this process will not interrupt or disrupt and of Haymarket’s work or processes. We will continue to comply with all our responsibilities, and look forward to share our outcomes with you.

Join us this Saturday at the 48th Annual Wake Up the Earth Festival hosted by Spontaneous Celebrations! From 12-6pm, we'll be at Southwest Corridor Park celebrating the legacy of the activists who stopped a six-lane highway extension from coming right through the park. In addition to the parade, there will be vendors and performances for the day. We hope to see you there!

Dear Community,

We are reaching out to ask for support for a dear and beloved friend of Haymarket People’s Fund who recently experienced a life-changing medical crisis. Cedric Shaw, a longtime member of the Haymarket family, suffered a major stroke at the end of September 2025. He went to sleep one day and woke up unable to walk or talk.

Before the stroke, Cedric was an active leader in the broader social justice movement from Boston to Connecticut to the Bronx, New York. He is a working-class, openly gay Black man who supported himself as an Administrative Trainer with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in New York City. Cedric has served on Haymarket’s board as President and spent years facilitating nonviolence trainings, advocating, and organizing on the ground in Connecticut to fight homelessness and homophobia.

Following the stroke, Cedric underwent life-saving procedures, including major brain surgery and heart procedures to prevent further medical crises. For the past five months, he has been unable to work while focusing on intensive physical rehabilitation to rebuild his strength and regain independence.

In his own words:
“I can walk now, but it’s not the same. I’m not able to write yet, so I’m working on that. Before, I could type 40 words a minute. After the stroke, I could only type 8. Now I’m up to 18 words per minute.”

Cedric is making steady progress every day, and we are calling on our community to help him rebuild his life. Please consider donating and sharing this fundraiser. Our goal is $15,000 to help cover past-due bills, medical expenses, food, gas, and electricity. If you’re able, please share this with a few friends and family members. Every contribution and share makes a difference.

In community and deep gratitude,
Chanravy Proeung
