The Amos Fortune Forum was organized in 1946 to present every summer speakers on a wide range topics

The Amos Fortune Forum was organized in 1946 to take advantage of the many widely known speakers on subjects of public interest and importance who live in and visit the Monadnock region. It was felt that most people would welcome the opportunity to cooperate in this Forum, each talking on whatever subject he or she considered most interesting and timely. Thus this small community might make a subs

tantial contribution to the intellectual life of our country. These talks on topics of current interest carry on the discussions held more than two centuries ago in this same Meetinghouse, when the foundations of our republic were being established by men and women who struggled for freedom and for human dignity. The enthusiastic response of the individuals who have been invited to address the Forum reflects a similar spirit. Furthermore, the lectures are a continuing tribute to Amos Fortune – one of Jaffrey’s most distinguished citizens – given without compensation by members of the Monadnock community, their relatives and friends. The Amos Fortune Forum, now in its 69th season, is free to the public. Operating expenses are partially offset by a generous annual bequest from the Grimshaw-Gudewicz Charitable Foundatioon, as well as by contributions from residents of the Monadnock Region.

Our final presenters of the summer 2026 season will be Tom Smith and Cosy Sheridan! On August 21st 7pm, Smith and Sheridan will walk through the songwriting process - and discuss the role of music as storytelling and communication between the musician and the listener. They will perform songs based on randomly chosen prompts that resonate with universal themes and experiences - such as relationships, aging, current events, and more! Don't miss it!

Christine Guth with be our penultimate speaker of the 2026 summer season! Guth with enlighten us to the life, accomplishments, and creative practice of Joseph Lindon Smith - a well-known 20th century artist and member of the Monadnock Artists' Colony! August 14th at 7pm!

On July 31st at 7pm, Duncan Watson - 30-year Assistant Director of Public Works for the City of Keene - will enlighten us to the unseen life of what we throw away. Join us for a look into NH's waste disposal system and how new technologies can have important economic and environmental impacts!

On July 24th 2026, our esteemed speaker will be Heather McKernan - long-time publisher of the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript! McKernan will discuss the value of local news, and how community journalism is shifting in the current digital age. Don't miss this presentation that hits so close to home!

Our second speaker of the summer will be Carol Greenwald! She will bring her over 40 years of experience as a producer of children's television to discuss the creative process and the importance of children's media as cultural and educational tools. Greenwald has been at the ground level of television's most influential children's programming - including Arthur, Curious George, Martha Speaks, and more. We're so excited to begin announcing our 2026 Season as we get ready to celebrate Amos Fortune Forum's 80th summer!

Kicking off the season on July 10th is President of the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests - Jack Savage! Savage will bring his expertise as a conservationist and advocate to discuss the trends, policies, and dynamics shaping our forests now and for decades to come.

We can't believe our 78th season is drawing to a close! Our last presentation of the summer will feature writer and filmmaker Dayton Duncan. Returning to the Amos Fortune Forum, Dayton Duncan will herald the improbable story of an eccentric nature writer and a small herd of bison in Plainfield, NH, in the early 1900s, and how they led to a national movement that brought the species back from the brink of disappearing forever! Join us this Friday at 8pm for this fascinating discussion, and to celebrate another wonderful summer season!
