Yesterday at this time, these 5 babies were scheduled to be euthanized. 💔

Today they were at the vet getting all their vaccines because an entire village showed up for them.

Our vet team at Springfield Animal Hospital stayed PAST closing to see all 5. Full exams, first shots, flea/tick prevention, fecals and heartworm tests. One little boy had a minor vaccine reaction and they jumped right on it - he’s okay now. We always make them stay a bit after shots for exactly this reason.

Their fosters Jacob and Dylan’s Fosters AND transport both drove 4 hours EACH WAY yesterday (8 hours round trip) just to get them safe - meeting in the middle to save them. Then fosters turned around and spent hours at the vet again today.
Duval Pet Spa squeezed the boys in last minute for baths after someone had a little accident on the ride 😅

And to our behind-the-scenes pull organizers Heather Wilson, Jannette Michelle and the amazing Semper Fi Legacy Rescue in GA - we are a FL rescue so we literally cannot pull from GA without a local GA rescue thank you for stepping in to pull for us. They made this happen.
This is what teamwork looks like. 5 lives saved yesterday that wouldn't be here without you all.

But we need help to keep them safe - vetting 5 puppies at once wiped us and they still have boosters + spay/neuter coming up next.
If 20 people gave just $25 today it would make a huge difference for their care.
Even $5 helps. Really.

SOS PULL - 5 PUPPIES SAFE!!
We just pulled 5 puppies from the euthanasia list today. This is what teamwork looks like.
Huge thank you to everyone who tagged, shared, transported, and to our wonderful foster who opened her home last minute. You know who you are and we love you for it.
They are safe with us now at Able's Legacy. Vet visit tomorrow, then lots of naps and puppy breath.
We'll be posting individual updates + how you can help very soon. For now just - they are alive because people cared. Thank you.

Heaven gained another angel 💔

Today, we ask our community to keep one of our own in your thoughts and prayers as we mourn the loss of her precious boy, Gus.

Gus’s mom is one of our board members, although we all know the pups are the ones who really call the shots.

Gus and Nelly were a deeply bonded sibling pair. There wasn’t a single person who met them who didn’t fall in love. Today, they are separated for the first time because of IVDD.

IVDD, or Intervertebral Disc Disease, occurs when one of the discs cushioning a dog’s spine deteriorates or ruptures, damaging or placing pressure on the spinal cord. It can cause severe pain, weakness, paralysis, and loss of bladder control. It can happen suddenly, and getting veterinary care quickly can make a major difference.

Any dog can develop IVDD, but it is especially common in breeds with shorter legs and longer backs. Higher-risk breeds include:

• Dachshunds
• French Bulldogs
• Beagles
• Basset Hounds
• Corgis
• Shih Tzus
• Lhasa Apsos
• Pekingese
• Cocker Spaniels

Warning signs can include:

• Crying out, trembling, or showing sudden pain
• A hunched or stiff back
• Holding the head low or having a stiff neck
• Refusing to walk, jump, climb stairs, or be picked up
• Weakness, wobbling, or crossing the back legs
• Dragging the feet or legs
• Loss of bladder or bowel control
• Sudden inability to stand or walk

If your dog shows sudden weakness, begins dragging a leg, or cannot stand or walk, keep them as still as possible and seek emergency veterinary care immediately. Do not wait to see if it improves.

IVDD cannot always be prevented, especially in dogs genetically prone to it, but you may be able to reduce the risk by keeping your dog at a healthy weight, using ramps instead of allowing jumps from furniture, limiting repeated stair use and high-impact activity, using a harness instead of a neck collar, and supporting both the chest and back end when lifting them.

In Gus’s memory, please help us raise awareness by sharing this post. Knowing the warning signs and acting quickly could help save another dog’s life.

Run free, sweet Gus. You were deeply loved and will never be forgotten. Please keep his mom and Nelly in your prayers as they face this heartbreaking loss. 🐾🌈

🚨 URGENT: Large Neglect Intake - We Need Your Help🚨

Our hearts are heavy.

We have been contacted regarding ANOTHER emergency intake of dozens of small furbabies in desperate need of medical care, safety, and a second chance at a better life.

We are proud to be a small but mighty rescue, however we have reached a critical point. Our fosters are nearing capacity, veterinary bills are increasing, and essential supplies are being depleted faster than we can replace them.

It weighs heavy on our hearts knowing we may soon have to say “no” to a dog in dire need.

Right now, we urgently need:

🐾 FOSTERS
Open your home and save a life. Even if it’s for a short-term, you can make a huge impact. We’ll fund the required medical care and provide you with the resources necessary.

This is why we do what we do ❤️

Every dog deserves to be loved like Peanut, sleeping peacefully cuddling his new best friend.
We’ll keep fighting until as many dogs as possible get to feel this safe, loved, and cared for! 🐾

My mom and her fiancé chased a stray pup under a car in the Florida heat and refused to give up until she was safe. I guess rescue really does run in our blood. ❤️🐾
