As Childhood Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, we’re sharing the story of Kenzie and her family, who stayed at Ronald McDonald House Jacksonville from 2023 to 2024 while Kenzie received treatment.
Today, Kenzie is in remission. She’s riding her bike, going to school, making friends and enjoying life. But as her mom shares, life after childhood cancer can hold both tremendous gratitude and continued uncertainty.
Treatment may end, but there are still scans, appointments, medications, fatigue and the worry that never quite goes away. Even ordinary milestones can carry an entirely different weight for a family who has fought so hard to reach them.
Kenzie’s mom says it best: “Yes, she is doing amazing. And yes, I am grateful. But this is still really hard. Both things can be true.”
Her words are a powerful reminder of the reality so many families carry long after treatment ends and why having a place to stay close to care, surrounded by support and community, matters.
This month, and every month, we stand with families navigating childhood cancer through the hardest days, the hopeful milestones and everything in between.
