Today we honor the courage, commitment, and legacy of America’s mariners, the men and women who keep our nation moving across the world’s oceans.

National Maritime Day was established in 1933 to commemorate the 1819 voyage of the SS Savannah, the first steamship to cross the Atlantic Ocean.
Since then, the U.S. Merchant Marine has played a vital role in every major conflict, often operating with extraordinary sacrifice and little public recognition.

From wartime sealift missions to modern global trade, America’s mariners continue to support our nation’s readiness, economy, and security.

NEW: Tricare For Life & the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program (2026)

We’ve received many questions about the new Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program and whether it may apply to Tricare For Life members, so I created this simple graphic to help explain the basics.

The program is currently scheduled to run July 1, 2026 through December 31, 2026 and may allow some eligible Medicare beneficiaries access to certain covered GLP-1 medications used for weight management for a $50 monthly copay.

For Tricare For Life members, one of the biggest questions is whether Medicare drug coverage is needed. Current CMS guidance requires eligible Medicare drug coverage in 2026, such as a standalone Part D plan (PDP) or a Medicare Advantage plan with drug coverage (MA-PD).

Please remember this is a general educational overview based on currently available CMS guidance. Individual eligibility, prior authorization requirements, coverage type, and costs can vary.
