we provide food, educational services , emergency preparedness education , and counseling . HELPS ministry Outreach is a non-profit, faith-based organization that helps individuals who fall through the cracks of the system. We provide assistance to approximately 300 families per month. We provide food and other commodities as well as a baby pantry. All of our baby items are free (diapers, wipers,
strollers, cribs, clothing, food, etc.). We also have a daycare and provide these services through childcare connections. In addition, we have an afterschool program as well. This afterschool program is from 2:30pm-6pm and we provide food and transportation (it is called "The Challengers"). We also offer tutoring, educational programs for adults (budgeting/money management, parenting classes, domestic violence training, spiritual counseling, etc.), a clothing program for children ages 7-14, as well as maternity clothing. During the summer (when funding allows), our youth go on excursions to St. For the summer program activities we go fishing, hiking, and swimming. We also provide a media center which is open from 1-2:30pm daily (Mon-Fri) for anyone that would like to come use our computers and internet. Kathleen is also a paralegal, and she can offer some legal information and referrals. We also offer life skills and services. Kathleen also teaches at Lincoln Land Community College and offers courses there. HELPS Ministry also provides emergency kits and information on how to prepare for emergencies and disasters. Finally, we provide host sites for youth and adults who need to do restitution via community service. Our volunteers include members from the Department of Human Services, and they work in our maintenance department, as our office crew, as well as our daycare. A few of the members work with Lesley Finkle who works with car repair and in the car clinic. He teaches young men and women how to do light car repair (such as changing oil, tires, and to be able to take care of one's self if they break down on the highway). He also teaches household maintenance (such as fixing door screens, window frames, and minor bathroom repairs).
