**History & Significance**
Lift Ev’ry Voice & Sing Park stands on sacred ground in Jacksonville, FL — the birthplace of James Weldon Johnson, a towering figure in American history. A son of Jacksonville’s historic LaVilla neighborhood, Johnson co-wrote “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” with his brother J. Rosamond Johnson in the early 1900s, a hymn that would become known as the Black National Anthem. Beyond his artistic brilliance, James Weldon Johnson was a civil rights leader, poet, diplomat, educator, and the first African American executive secretary of the NAACP. His legacy runs deep through Jacksonville’s soil, symbolizing Black excellence, resilience, and the power of voice — especially when lifted in song and purpose.
**The Pop-Out’s Purpose**
Hosting The Pop-Out at this historic landmark is more than a concert — it’s a cultural reclamation, a spiritual homecoming, and a bold declaration of the future. In a city where Black artistry has long shaped the rhythm of the streets, it’s vital we create space for our stories, songs, and sounds to rise once again from the soil that birthed legends. This event isn’t just for entertainment — it’s a continuation of a legacy, where music becomes a medium for healing, unity, and transformation. The Pop-Out gives Jacksonville’s emerging artists and music lovers a sacred platform rooted in history, to reimagine what’s possible when Black creativity is centered, celebrated, and heard.
