My heart is full. 3 days of excellence and brilliance and family in one space. The BMHS did not disappoint. Thank you to Dillard for a powerful spoken word, .Michael Hannon for the fire you brought with the keynote call to action, our award winners, presenters, panelists---of whom one said, "I'm tired of panels like this..." You had to be there. OMG, our emcee Elle Michelle was everything as she brought us Black Jeapordy, Auntie's Wisdom, so many fun games and taught us the line dance for TI's Let Em Know. Thanks to Finding Inspiration for permitting us to screen your film The Vow.Thanks to the employers who participated in our career fair, our exhibitors for giving us something to take home. Shout out to Eugene for launching her business at the BMHS. Thank you Fant for enhancing the experience on the back end with the tech and music. To the best planning committee members ANYWHERE, take a bow. Nathan, my earthly rock and shield, thank you! To the only organization who stepped forward to sponsor us, thank you Board for Certified Counselors. I'm proud to be a class of '16 NBCC Minority Fellow. Lastly, thanks to the attendees who showed up and immersed yourselves in the space. I know you got everything you put in. Thank you, All. I'm blessed to have offered you my brainchild for this 10th year. Sisterly, LaTonya Stay tuned for details about next year's event. We back live.

What an amazing kick-off to the Black Mental Health Symposium with the pre-conference! We planned to the tee to ensure there would be no techinical difficulties. We knocked it out of the park, you hear me? But then, we got down to the last hour and guess who was the source of the technical difficulties? Yep, yours truly! How was i supposed to know to click the little doo hickey in the thingy?

Meet our presenter, Tyronisha Williams!

Join Tyronisha at the 10th Annual Black Mental Health Symposium as she presents her session, "From trauma to incarceration: Examining Unresolved Childhood Experiences Among Black Men in The Criminal Justice System."

She will present on how trauma is universal, but for many Black men, vulnerability has never felt like an optio and includes abandonment, adultification, community violence, loss of innocence and generations of pain carried in silence. In safe spaces, men are beginning to recognize that what they survived was traumaβ€”and that healing requires the freedom to speak about it.
Strength isn't hiding the pain. Strength is having the courage to face it.
It’s time to take off the mask.
