Meet our October Women with Heart Honoree LCDR (Dr.) Herlena O. Washington! LCDR (Dr.) Herlena O. Washington, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, is a retired U.S. Navy Naval Officer with over 25 years of distinguished service and extensive expertise in healthcare administration, leadership, and community engagement. She holds degrees from the University of Oregon, Troy State University, the University of Phoenix, and a Doctorate in Christian Counseling from Kingdom Truth University.

Dr. Washington has dedicated her life to leadership, service, and mentorship. As President of Christ Sanctuary Ministries, Inc., she oversees community outreach, scholarship, and youth mentorship programs supporting underprivileged children and veterans. A committed advocate for juvenile reform, she serves as President of the Duval Academy Advisory Board, mentoring incarcerated youth and leading educational and social programs for over two decades.
An active Diamond Life member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. since 1997, she has held multiple leadership roles, including National Military Co-Chair and Chapter President, and has led award-winning community initiatives. She is also a Life Member and Chaplain of the National Naval Officers Association.
Dr. Washington’s honors include induction into the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame (2018), the Jacksonville Image Award (2022), and Women with Heart Honoree (2026). Her leadership continues to inspire through decades of service to God, country, and community.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Volunteers in Medicine celebrates survivors, stands with those currently battling breast cancer, and honors the lives we've lost. 💗

Awareness matters EVERY day, and early detection can save lives! Know your body, schedule your mammogram if you're due, and encourage your loved ones to get screened.

Together, let's spread hope, celebrate strength, and save lives! 💕
