The organization is currently serving the northeast Florida, with offices in Jacksonville, FL, Port Orange, FL, and opening soon in Saint Augustine, FL. Pella, MD and Ivan Guerrero, MD who are both infectious disease specialists and the Chief Executive Officer, Vicki-lynne Gloger. Dr. Pella and Dr. Guerrero provide inpatient/outpatient care for patients diagnosed with HIV and/or AIDS on a daily basis. The group has provided funding for testing of local high risk populations. Jacksonville, FL has the third highest HIV/AIDS rate per capita in the United States . In 2011 there were 2,507 HIV cases identified in Duval County, as reported by the CDC. We are hopeful that with increased awareness of the improved treatments for those living with HIV, along with increased educational campaigns, increasing efforts to stop maternal/fetal transmission, and new testing procedures, we can help reduce the HIV/AIDS population in our area and “across the globe.” Stepping up the efforts to reduce the incidence of this disease must be a role for all to take part in.
