Coffee Shop Review #45: It’s In The DNA Coffee

Parking: Street parking. GPS took us to a parking lot in the back that worked out a little better for us.

Outdoor Seating: Yes. They have a deck along the side of the building.

Indoor Atmosphere: It was clean, cozy, and inviting. The choice of green velvet stools to the leather chairs, to the live edge tables created a craft coffee shop vibe. It’s not small inside but somehow it did feel a little crowded though. They have a small bar seating that is great for interacting with the staff. The barista was super friendly and did a great job handling all of us. The food was served in fast food to go bags and the coffee was served in paper cups. There were plenty of real cups available and someone mentioned that I would want mine in a cup so she offered to pour it in a cup but I left it as is. Obviously that is a pet peeve of mine; it should be served in a real cup especially if there are real cups readily available.

Food: There sere a few breakfast sandwich options but like many places the food was premade and then reheated. The reheated everyone’s food a little too much as the sandwich was too hot to touch for a couple minutes. My coffee was done before my sandwich was cool enough to properly eat. It was good BUT the temperature made it not worthwhile. Additionally someone’s sandwich either got missed or given to a different person. They may want to start taking names for orders to help prevent that.

Coffee: Their coffee was good but the paper cup lowered its quality and the hot sandwich overshadowed the coffee.

Overview. I believe they are relatively new and working out some kinks so I would like to give them the benefit of doubt and would be willing to give them another try because this coffee shop looks to have potential. (still better than any Starbucks).

Coffee Shop Review #44: Hastings Coffee CO in Hastings, FL

Parking: Street parking. On an early Sunday morning there was plenty of parking for all of us

Outdoor Seating: Yes. They have a huge back patio

Indoor Atmosphere: It has a Southern chic vibe and is great. They have a large bar seating that is great for interacting with the staff who happened to be the owners. The family running this coffee shop are absolutely wonderful and were a pleasure during our visit. They were super friendly and even took their time to help us get some group photos outside. There is plenty of space inside to accommodate larger groups yet cozy enough to stop in by yourself. The food was served on plates yet the drinks were in paper cups. That is my only complaint.

Food: The food was awesome. I started with breakfast egg rolls and they were so good I added more. They have a decent selection of breakfast items and everyone seemed to enjoy their food. There were no complaints on food.

Coffee: Their coffee was really good and it appears everyone enjoyed their drinks. It looks like they use Kookaburra beans which has been good wherever we’ve been.

Overview. It was absolutely worth the visit and we’ll for sure be going back

Coffee Shop Review #43: Coconut Key in Mayport

Parking: Not great for motorcycles. Make sure to have a puck.

Outdoor Seating: Yes. There is some seating on the front porch and then a few high top tables outside with umbrellas.

Indoor Atmosphere: It has a Florida Keys beach vibe inside but done tastefully. It’s not very large inside though and was crowded. There is counter seating and a couple chairs but you pretty much had to go outside to not feel cramped. It appears most people (locals) get their stuff and go if it’s busy. The staff was nice but not engaging and I think thats just because it was busy for that little space. The coffee was served in real cups and the food on paper plates.

Food: The food appeared to be freshly made earlier in the day and reheated.

Coffee: Their coffee was good but nothing special.

Overview. If I happen to be in the area and wanted coffee I would stop in but don’t feel the desire to go out of my way to go there.

Coffee Shop Review #42: Parlor Doughnuts by World Golf Village

Parking: Plenty of parking. It is in a little shopping strip

Outdoor Seating: Yes. They have a large outside covered seating area that is great.

Indoor Atmosphere: Parlor Doughnuts is a chain/franchise so the design and details are polished and refined but do not have a corporate overtone. The inside is moderately sized with plenty of seating but the outside is better suited for groups larger than 2 or 3. Unfortunately all the drinks are served in paper cups and the food on paper plates or in the to-go box. The staff was friendly enough but not the same friendly vibe from an owner/operated establishment.

Food: It’s gourmet doughnuts plus some other breakfast bagel items. I am not a doughnut person but those were definitely not like any Ive had before.

Coffee: Their coffee was good; better than I expected. I would have preferred my espresso in a cup but the double shot was bold and did the job.

Overview. As a coffee shop it’s not bad. As a doughnut shop it is good. It’s worth stopping in and revisiting.

Coffee Shop Review #41: Torenza Caffe

Parking: Decent amount of parking; there shouldn’t be concern to find a spot

Outdoor Seating: Yes. There are a few outside tables under the overhang.

Indoor Atmosphere: It was clean, comfortable, and inviting inside. It is decently large inside with plenty of seating with a mix of regular tables, chairs, couches, lounge chairs, but not configurable for a larger group. Drinks were served in real cups and food on plates. The owner was super friendly and very engaging. The owners are Albanian and they did a great job of brining in a little of that flair.

Food: Unfortunately we weren’t able to get any food unless you wanted a dessert at that time. The menu items looked great but we were told we couldn’t do breakfast items until later when other staff arrived. I suspect it was because they were newly opened and getting systems figured out, but it was disappointing at that time because the food looked promising.

Coffee: Their coffee was great. Normally I do a double shot espresso as a base line to compare to other shops but it was highly suggested to go for the Cappuccino Bustin and that was a sold recommendation. Several of us had that. Everyone seemed to enjoy their coffee.

Overview. It is definitely worth visiting and we surely will go again.

Early morning rides with great people make for an awesome day! A big shout out to Hastings Coffee Company for a wonderful experience.

Why do it in 20min when you can do it in 80min. It was a nice little ride to Dave & Buster’s for MotoGP.
