Florida Service Dogs, Inc. Putting paws in action to create Service Dogs. We are a small free hands on training program in Jacksonville, Fl. Clients work with our dogs, learn/train.

Florida Service Dogs, Inc. provides education, advocacy and professionally trained service animals for qualified persons with disabilities, we also provide dogs for several other settings such as; foster training situations where a qualified person with a disability applies to foster the possible match for their needs and upon approval the person takes the dog home to live with and care for the animal providing food, water, shelter, continued training by attending training classes and public outings, socialization and companionship/bonding and toys.

we finally made it up here!

after having to take not one but 2 of our dogs to the vet before we left town

with one dallas needing surgery!

bith dogs are resting comfortably

and dallas had surgery tonremove s mass that had erupted! yeo the same ine that was removed july 21 2026!

never seen anything like that before!

its mast cell carcinoma

and the specialists we have used and known since 2009! when they did martys tplo!

allied veterinarian specialist have and continue to be the best!

being patient with us and so caring snd helpful as always!

esp when we were trying to go out of town having to get help from our wonderful volunteers once again to transport dallas to and from.

we are very grateful for all of their help!

dallas should return home today

pepper and teddy are with us and doing well having a great trip lol

we were able to chill the past few days
something thats not in our normal routine lol

however we were disappointed yesterday to learn are just 15 mins from bush gardens williamsburg virginia and they are closed mon -wed sniff sniff

sometimes our first instinct is to tell the dog to leave it

and in time the clients have to learn to trust the dogs training and let them do the job they have been training for

niki and pepper have been working so hard to get to this level!

whats so special about these teams?

ones got cp and legally blind, ones had a stroke since being with us and has memory loss and one has seizures

their lives are difficult enough as it is but adding the service dog while can be a huge benefit

can also be a ruff road to complete the requirements of the rigid training program they go through!

most people apply to a service dog program and sit on a waiting list 2 to 5 years (which has been the stock answer for 30 years) while their dog is bred raised selected socialized and trained all for them.

then they get notified when they dog is finished and they attend a 2 or 3 week handler course and graduate.

every program is different and has a different process and different support and follow up etc

our clients go thru the program and are actually involed at every step of the way including evaluating selecting and training the service dog for their needs.

they go thru the ups and downs of some dogs not being a match or washing out for some reason or another .

they get to learn hands on basics and advanced levels of handling leaderships and the actual training methods.

our clients learn to the best of their abilities and participate on their own level and we fill in the blanks

it is a long hard journey but when they graduate they have a professionally trained service dog that helps them in so many ways they couldn't imagine.

many tines people come in with a narrow range of what they want the dog to do for their needs and leave with a dog that can help with so much more!

they also learn the basics laws that give them their rights in the various life situations.

some clients get lucky and we have a match right off the bat and others we struggle to find the right or best match

but as long as the client is committed we will continue to search for the best match.

we never give up on our commited clients!

even when life happens!

so proud of all of our teams!

even when they are doing the simple behaviors!

many times its those 'simple' behaviors that set us apart from the teams out there who aren't trained properly!

go in is a command we use to tell our service dogs park it under a chair table seat bench or some small area

it keeps the dogs out of site and safe

and we know that not everyone wants their service dogs tucked hidden away

depending upon the use or need for the dog will depend if the dog should go in

guide dogs for the blind are beside the person at the ready becuase they are their eyes and have to be ready to move when the handler is ready.

hearing dogs may need to be out as well to be seen when reacting to sounds not trained

dogs for psychiatric needs may also need to be with the handler rather than being neatly tucked away
