"Homes and Hopes" is the fundraising campaign of the Philippine Medical Society of Northeast Florida, Inc. Beneficiaries are the survivors of Super Typhoon Haiyan (local name: Typhoon Yolanda) which hit the Philippines last November 2013. Proceeds will be used to build a village of 22 houses in cooperation with Gawad Kalinga (Filipino for "Gives Care"), a local charity that has been building homes
for the less fortunate. Each house can accommodate a family of 4-7. Each "Homes and Hopes" raffle ticket costs $50 and only 3,000 tickets were printed. Raffle prizes include a Ford Focus or $14,000 cash (winner's choice), smart TVs, and vacation stays at a Club Resort. The raffle draw will be on May 31, 2014. Interested parties (organizations or individuals) may also sponsor a house by donating $3,500 (the cost of building one house). Sponsors will have their names listed in the village marker. Other supporters like kids, adolescents and students can join the "InsteadOf" campaign. They can decide to "sacrifice" something (like a toy or candy purchase) and then donate the money they save!
