Start the morning with the LaVilla Remembered Walking Tour, a guided history walk through one of Jacksonville’s most significant neighborhoods, along the Emerald Trail.

OR join us for the S-Line Cleanup from 9 to 11 a.m. at Emmett Reed Community Center.

In the afternoon, bring your lawn chair to Brentwood Park for Live at the Bandstand, with live music, local talent, and food trucks from 3 to 7 p.m.

The Emerald Trail is being built with the community, not just for it. 💚

That means showing up at neighborhood meetings, sitting in listening sessions, and actually listening.

It means asking what residents want to see, not just building and hoping they show up.

That's how Groundwork Jacksonville works. And right now, there are real ways to be part of it: creek cleanups, trail maintenance through Trail Keepers, public art, and more.

The S-Line runs through the heart of Jacksonville, and we need your help keeping it clean.

Join Groundwork Jacksonville this Saturday October 17th from 9 to 11 a.m. for the S-Line Cleanup along the half-mile stretch between W. 6th Street and Moncrief. We'll supply trash grabbers and bags. Just bring gloves, water, closed-toe shoes, and a hat.

Meet us at Emmett Reed Community Center, 1093 W. 6th Street. Volunteers under 18 must be with an adult.

LaVilla was once called the Harlem of the South. Jacksonville doesn't talk about it enough.

At its peak, the streets were alive with music, culture, and community. The Ritz Theatre drew top performers. James Weldon Johnson, born right here, wrote the words to "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing." LaVilla was a place that produced something lasting for the entire country.

Decades of disinvestment changed that. But the Emerald Trail's LaVilla Link runs through this neighborhood for a reason. The trail is part of how Jacksonville honors that history and builds toward something new.

This Saturday, October 17th, you can walk it with a guide. The LaVilla Remembered Walking Tour starts at 9 a.m. at Florida C. Dwight Park. Tickets are available here: https://tinyurl.com/lavillatour-Oct17

Jacksonville's LaVilla neighborhood was once a thriving center of arts, culture, and Black life in the South. On October 17th, you can walk through that history.

The LaVilla Remembered Walking Tour takes you through the neighborhood along the Emerald Trail, exploring the stories, people, and places that shaped this community and continue to shape Jacksonville. The guided tour runs from 9 to 11 a.m. at Florida C. Dwight Park, 1199 Church Street West.

Our bimonthly Trail Talks on the Emerald Trail event focuses on just that 🌼 Join us on October 14th from 9:30 - 11:00 AM for Native Plants 101! We will start with a short lesson and demo with Jacksonville followed by volunteering to pull weeds and help maintain the butterfly garden on the trail 🦋

Brentwood Park comes alive on October 17th for Live at the Bandstand!

The music begins at 3 p.m. with Student Hour featuring Jacksonville Arts & Music School and Minds of the Future Academy. Then Marcus Young takes the stage at 4, followed by The Groov at 5, and Heart of Elaine closes it out at 6.

Come out and join us for live music, food trucks, and good company at 551 W. 25th Street. Don't forget to bring a lawn chair!
