Together we unlock potential for achievement at home, at work, and at play. The Arc Jacksonville believes we all have the right to be in community and to make personal decisions about how we live, learn, work and play. Each day, we help more than 500 people discover and unlock the possibilities within themselves. 🏡 We recently welcomed State Representative Jessica Baker, who represents the district where The Arc Jacksonville Village is located, for a firsthand look at our community!

We enjoyed sharing how our programs are creating opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental differences (IDD) to live, work, and thrive in their communities. 🌟

From expanding innovative housing options to addressing the evolving needs of the people and families we serve, we discussed the future of disability services and the importance of building solutions that are meaningful, sustainable, and centered on the people who matter most. 🤝

Thank you to Representative Baker for taking the time to visit, and to our board member Leyda Cooksey and supporters Noreen and Brian Wynne for being part of this important conversation!

Together, we're building stronger communities where everyone has the opportunity to belong.

Some smiles have a way of brightening a room, and Jackie’s is unforgettable! For National Disability Employment Month, we’re celebrating the people who make our workplaces special and remind us that employment is about so much more than a job.

✨Jackie is the longest working Triumph Industries employee and is one of our community home residents here at The Arc Jacksonville. Inspired by Jackie’s beautiful smile, our intern, Ozni Foxglove, captured her contagious joy in a watercolor portrait.

We’re so grateful for people like Jackie, who bring their own light to our community every day. Here’s to celebrating the people behind the smiles and the possibilities that grow when everyone has the opportunity to shine! 🌻

💜 We're honored that The Arc Jacksonville's Specialized Aging Support (SAS) program received an Honorable Mention in the 2026 's Awards for Innovation in Alzheimer's Care! 🏆

Our SAS program supports individuals with intellectual and developmental differences (IDD) who are at risk for or experiencing Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Through specialized services, wellness activities, education, and community engagement, SAS helps individuals maintain their health, independence, and quality of life as they age. 💚

We're grateful to Maude's Awards and The Richard & Maude M. Ferry Foundation for recognizing this important work and helping bring greater awareness to innovative approaches that support individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.

Together, we're working toward a future where every individual can age with dignity, purpose, and the support they deserve. 🌱

🌎💚 This past weekend, we celebrated World Mental Health Day, reminding us that mental health matters for EVERYONE! 🧠✨

💡 Did you know? Research suggests that approximately 1 in 3 individuals with intellectual and developmental differences (IDD) also experience a co-occurring mental health condition.

At The Arc Jacksonville, our Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) program empowers individuals with IDD through mental health education, meaningful connections, and practical life skills! 💚🙌

Through engaging, hands-on activities, our participants are building skills that help them thrive every day!

💛 Emotional Wellness – Developing healthy coping strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and emotions.

🤝 Social Skills – Building friendships, strengthening communication, and fostering positive relationships.

🏡 Independent Living Skills – Practicing decision-making, problem-solving, and everyday life skills.

🌟 Self-Confidence – Encouraging self-advocacy, independence, and personal growth.

Because mental health is about more than just feeling good. 💚 It's about having the tools, confidence, and support to navigate life's challenges and thrive!

Together, we're building skills, creating connections, and empowering individuals to live more independent, meaningful lives. 🫶

This month we’re celebrating the individuals that add value to their workplaces.

Wade Pritchett has been working at the Mercedes Benz Atlantic location for 11 years now and has contributed to the workplace in so many positive ways.

Walking through you can hear many hello’s and interactions between Wade and his coworkers - proving individuals with differences add to workplace morale.

We are proud to recognize the University of North Florida as our 2026 Honorary Community Advocate at this year's Dinner with Bill & Friends! 🌱

For 20 years, UNF has been an extraordinary partner in expanding opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental differences. Together, we launched On Campus Transition (OCT), a groundbreaking college program that was the first of its kind in the Southeast and has since become a model for programs across the country.

Through this partnership, 99 OCT graduates have had the opportunity to experience college life, build independence, develop meaningful friendships, and prepare for their futures. What began as a bold vision two decades ago has transformed lives and demonstrated what is possible when education and community partners work together to create new opportunities.

UNF's longstanding commitment to our students and mission has helped establish Jacksonville as a national leader in postsecondary opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental differences.

🍦 Dairy Queen Jacksonville Beach sees possibilities, not limits.

Ryan, one of our On Campus Transition (OCT) students, is putting his talents to work at Dairy Queen, taking on a variety of roles throughout the restaurant.

He’s following in the footsteps of Nick, another Arc Jacksonville individual who was encouraged to grow into new responsibilities—from bussing tables and packing orders to taking drive-thru orders.

That’s what happens when employers see potential, create opportunities and believe in their employees. ❤️

This National Disability Awareness Month (NDEAM), we’re giving a big shoutout to Dairy Queen Jacksonville Beach for recognizing that people with IDD are part of the winning formula for a strong workforce.

Employment doesn’t always start with a job. Sometimes, it starts with an internship, a volunteer opportunity, or someone willing to open a door. ⚓️
 
Since February 2026, Evan has been interning aboard the USS Orleck, gaining hands-on experience in a historic Jacksonville landmark. He found the opportunity through the ship’s volunteer program — and he turned that opportunity into a meaningful internship experience.

But his learning doesn’t stop there. He also interns as a teacher’s assistant, where he recently prepared and facilitated a lesson on Vincent van Gogh. 🎨📚

That experience is helping him strengthen his communication and leadership skills while aligning with his long-term goal of becoming a history teacher.
 
This is why internships matter. They give people with intellectual and developmental differences the chance to explore their interests, build confidence, develop workplace skills, make connections and show employers what they can do.

For Evan, one opportunity is helping open the door to the next.
 
Because IDD talent is everywhere. Sometimes, it just takes an opportunity to see it. 💙
