We’ve fought for our estuaries for years. The time to act is now. For the first time since the Kirkpatrick Dam was built we have funding on desk to finally allow this stain on our ecosystem to go away and allow the largest source of freshwater to free flow into our estuary.

Please take a minute out of your day to make your voices heard that you support Ocklawaha restoration. You can copy and paste the email below to make it easier for you.

Dear Governor DeSantis,

My name is NAME and I live in CITY/TOWN, Florida. I urge you to approve the appropriation of $6.25 million to initiate Ocklawaha River restoration. Restoring natural freshwater flow from the Ocklawaha to the lower St. Johns River would improve water quality and support important fish habitat. This is essential for sustaining Florida’s recreational and commercial fisheries. Please approve the funding appropriation for Ocklawaha restoration and let’s put this river system back to the way God intended it.

Today, our co-founder Evan Tucker had the privilege of meeting with Governor Ron DeSantis to discuss the vital restoration of the Ocklawaha River and the importance of protecting the interests of sportsmen across northeast Florida. We currently have 15 million dollars allocated in both the House and Senate budgets towards restoration. The next couple of weeks will tell how this story ends.

🚨🚨Major Announcment🚨🚨

We’re excited to share that the Senate subcommittee has approved $6.25 million for the restoration of the Ocklawaha River in the FY 2025-26 budget! This funding is a significant victory for our fishery, but it’s just the beginning of our journey.

If passed, The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) must develop a project plan by July 1, 2026, with the goal of completing the restoration by December 31, 2035. While this is a monumental step forward, we know that this fight will be met with significant challenges.

Together, we must advocate for the implementation of this plan and ensure that our natural resources are protected for future generations.

Stay tuned for updates on this project that will be coming soon

During the Cowford Tournament today, we are fishing where the sweetwater of the St. Johns River kisses the brine of the Atlantic Ocean during a “king tide”. A king tide is an exceptionally high tide that occurs when the gravitational forces of the moon and the sun are in alignment and the Earth is closest to the moon (at perigee) or the sun (at perihelion). These tides happen during full or new moons when the sun, moon, and Earth are in alignment, causing the strongest gravitational pull on Earth’s oceans. King tides can yield exceptional inshore fishing opportunities when fish work through the flooded spartina grasses in search of normally out of reach forage.
