For many teenagers, a high school dance is a typical rite of passage a moment filled with dresses, music, friends, and awkward slow songs. However for a girl in foster care, that night can mean something much more. It’s not just about the dance; it’s about belonging, being seen, and feeling normal even if it's only for a few hours.
The week of the dance, I surprised her with a shopping trip. We picked out a soft lavender dress that made her feel like someone in a movie. She couldn’t stop looking at herself in the mirror. For the first time in a long time, she saw a girl who wasn’t broken or forgotten but beautiful.
At the dance, No one knew her full story, about the moves, the caseworkers, the pain. But that night, she didn’t feel like a foster kid. She just felt like a teenager.
And that mattered....
Because sometimes healing starts in the smallest moments a shared laugh, a pretty dress, a night where she gets to feel normal. For this foster girl, her first high school dance was more than a dance. It was a step toward hope.
Special Thank you ._ for capturing the moments that can't be forgotten
She will remember this day for the rest of her life🩷
