Empowerment Resources Empowerment Resources Inc. is a private 501(c)(3) non-profit organization Empowerment Resources Inc., a private 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.

Empowerment Resource's Journey Into Womanhood™ (JIW) program originally started as a summer program in 2003. Due to the success of the program and request from parents, youth, and the community, the JIW program
was extended throughout the year. Most JIW components are presented by community agencies and businesses that volunteer their time and service. In 2006, Empowerment Resources added other programs and services to meet the needs of the community. Empowerment Resources seeks to not only to empower youth and their families, but to establish community partnerships and expose families to other community resources. To date, the organization has service approximately 400 youth and their families in Duval and surrounding counties.

❤️As we close out Hispanic Heritage Month we wanted to share some facts!

📅From September 15 to October 15, we celebrate the history, culture, and traditions of Hispanic and Latino Americans.

📣Did you know Hispanic Heritage Month first started in 1968 as a week-long celebration under President Lyndon B. Johnson. In 1988, it was expanded into a month-long celebration. September 15 was chosen because several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, celebrate their independence on that day. Mexico and Chile also celebrate their independence in September, making this time of year important to many Hispanic communities.
During this time we recognize their contributions, appreciate different cultures, and celebrate the traditions that bring communities together. This celebration gives people the opportunity to learn more about the different cultures that have helped shape our country.

We are honored and excited to share that our friend, Jacksonville’s own Melanie Lawson, has selected Empowerment Resources, Inc. (ERI) as her charity of choice for her upcoming event, Dear Jacksonville: Turning a Love Letter Into Impact! ✨

Melanie’s connection to ERI began years ago when she was invited to share her story with girls in our Journey Into Womanhood program. What she shared that day became a lasting reminder that our stories matter, our words can travel farther than we know, and sometimes we make an impact before we even realize anyone is listening. 💫

More than 20 years later, Melanie continues to recognize ERI’s commitment to empowering girls, teens and strengthening families. 💙

✨ Journey Into Womanhood is back! ✨

On September 19, more than 75 participants gathered to celebrate the launch of this year’s Journey Into Womanhood (JIW) program with our annual open house and game day! 💜

The day kicked off with an introduction to JIW’s mission, fun icebreakers, and an opportunity for participants to meet our incredible mentors and volunteers.

We were also excited to welcome My Village Project’s Coding in Color program for a special presentation. Guests heard from college students about careers in technology, gaming, and computer science—and even had the chance to test their game, Space Tank! 🚀🎮

The afternoon continued with games and fellowship alongside JIW mentors and VyStar Credit Union volunteers, including giant Jenga, pinball, and board games.

A heartfelt thank you to VyStar Credit Union for providing the space, volunteering their time, and supporting Empowerment Resources through their “Good is Everywhere” initiative. Your partnership helped make this day one to remember! 💙

As we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re proud to recognize the strength, resilience, and rich culture of the Hispanic community — including our very own Executive Director, Elexia Coleman-Moss! ❤️

In her News4JAX interview, Elexia shares how her family’s Cuban heritage and her mother’s strong work ethic helped shape the woman and leader she is today. From childhood and college to her career and the creation of Empowerment Resources Inc., those lessons have remained at the heart of her journey.

One of the most meaningful values her mother instilled in her was the importance of treating everyone with dignity and respect — a value Elexia continues to carry into her leadership and the work she does to empower young people in our community.
