The Tom Nehl Truck Company has been a trusted name in commercial trucking for more than 65 years. For decades, the company has lived out a unique pledge: giving back at least 2 percent of net profits every year. Since 2020, they have done so through the Tom Nehl Truck Company Fund housed at The Community Foundation, which supports organizations that strengthen children and families, from the Boy Scouts and Salvation Army to Wolfson Children’s Hospital and Hunger Fight.

Lisa and Glenn Ullmann are continuing a powerful family tradition of philanthropy. For the second year in a row, the Henri Landwirth Family Fund and Ullmann Wealth Partners offered a matching gift for all donations to WJCT during their radio drive, helping them exceed their goal and raise $70,000.

By giving through their respective donor-advised funds at The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, the couple combines their philanthropic priorities to protect independent journalism and strengthen community accountability. Their collaborative approach demonstrates how strategic giving can honor family history while building a more informed future for Jacksonville.

A small organization grant is tapping into teens’ interest in esports to build skills that go beyond the screen. Esports (short for electronic sports) are organized, competitive video gaming events where players compete against each other, often in front of live audiences or online viewers. When part of a school or club, they’ve been found to reduce social isolation and create a sense of belonging, especially for teens who are otherwise not engaged in extracurricular activities.

A $2,500 grant from the Delores Barr Weaver Grassroots Grants Endowment was recently awarded to First Coast Esports Alliance supporting the Tech Refresh Program, where teens learn to repair donated computers and help redistribute them to nonprofits serving youth and families in need.

The Jacksonville Public Education Fund has announced the 2026 teachers selected for the Cindy Edelman Excellence in Teaching Fellowship. They will receive funding to lead projects to bring new ideas, stronger classroom supports, and real-world learning to students and schools.

“These fellowships honor educators who are deeply committed to their students and willing to keep learning in ways that make their teaching even stronger,” said Cindy Edelman, a former art history educator. “What makes this program so meaningful is that each fellowship begins with a teacher’s idea, then grows into something that benefits students, schools and the wider community.”

The fellowship is supported by an endowed designated fund at The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida.

A beautiful day for a groundbreaking! The Village of Lake Forest, developed by Ability Housing, is a special project to us at The Community Foundation. It stands at the intersection of two issues that matter to the Foundation and our fundholders: public education and affordable housing.

This former elementary school will be converted into affordable housing for educators and an early learning center operated by Duval County Public Schools. The Foundation invested $500,000 from the Local Capital Pool in this project, alongside many other funders.

Richard Sisisky, Board Chair of the Foundation, led the committee that approved this investment, and spoke about the importance of the project to the Foundation. He was joined by John Hirabayashi, Trustee and Chair of the Impact Investing Committee, Isaiah M. Oliver, President, Grace Sacerdote, CFO/EVP, and James Coggin, Senior Director of Grantmaking & Impact Investing.
