Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, Inc. JALA provides civil legal services to low-income persons primarily in Duval, Clay, Nassau and St. Johns, Florida.

JALA also serves Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Madison, Suwannee, Taylor and Union.

Dominic DeLuca, Special Counsel for Marshall Dennehey was previosly an attorney in JALA's family and consumer law units. Since the expansion of the Orange Park Ask-A-Lawyer Clinic, Dominic has been committed to providing free legal advice to community members and has attended the clinic each month. He also encourages others within his firm to participate in pro bono opportunities. His volunteerism extends beyond legal work, as Dominic also serves as a youth soccer and baseball coach and is a board member with the Live for Today Foundation. Did you know that if you accept a case pro bono but discover that funds are recoverable from a third party, you can recover funds. You just can’t charge your client directly on a pro bono case.

Dan Lang participates every month in St. Johns County Legal Aid pro bono programs, including general advice clinics and consumer classes, as well as supporting the eviction clinic every Monday. He advises and assists people facing eviction and negotiates with landlords to dismiss the cases. This is a huge help to people who want to be able to rent again in the future, receive public housing, or have a better credit score. In turn the landlord benefits when a tenant gets caught up on rent or provides a definite move-out date and leaves the rental in good condition. Every Monday Dan is there, like clockwork, helping those facing one of the scariest and most stressful moments of their lives.

During we will be congratulating our Kathy Para Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award recipients. Alice Morris. who serves as Pro Bono & Community Liaison for the Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association (JWLA), attends quarterly meetings for the Fourth Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee, promotes pro bono opportunities to local attorneys, and assists with the promotion and student selection for the Kathy Para Student Internship. She also supports Ask-a-Lawyer events and participated in the 2025 Seal and Expungement Fair. We are so grateful for her deep commitment to pro bono.
