Great meeting today. When you’re a small business you don’t have the resources that larger companies have. That’s why membership in SBMC is so good today Matrix Marketing spoke about AI and it’s incredible how they can help your organization.

SBMC Week in Review:
Last weekend we were proud to host an event for our members at the Jacksonville Icemen game. It was a great turnout as Hockey fever was in full swing across Jacksonville.

On Wednesday we held out first March Luncheon at Maggiano's and we had the pleasure of having Mark Van Loh CEO of the Jacksonville Aviation Authority as guest speaker. We were also fortunate enough to induct three new members to our club.

In 1964, hockey made its way to Jacksonville through the Jacksonville Rockets. Under the guidance of player, coach, and general manager Robert “Bob” Sabourin, the Rockets played their home games at the Jacksonville Coliseum from 1964 to 1972.

After the team folded in 1972, Bob Sabourin remained in Jacksonville as an event promoter and played a crucial role in bringing hockey back to the city.

Former President Ken Williams converted an old Sam’s Club building into Skate World (now known as the Community First Igloo) in 1993. Bob Sabourin officially brought hockey back to Jacksonville the following year becoming owners of the Jacksonville Bullets hockey team, and playing their home games at Skate World. Since then, hockey has remained in Jacksonville with teams such as the Lizard Kings, Barracudas, and now the Jacksonville Icemen.

The Southside Business Men’s Club was fortunate to have Bob Sabourin serve as Club President in 1981 and Ken Williams in 1983. We are honored to share their legacy and the impact they have made in the Jacksonville community.

Our Club would like to continue supporting Jacksonville as a hockey town by inviting our members to join us on Saturday, February 28th at 7:00 PM as we cheer on the Jacksonville Icemen.

Tickets are just $23.36 and can be purchased using the link below.
